The Open Door Welcome to All Saints

Fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost 30 August 2015

A warm welcome to All Saints. This weekend, Diana Mockford and Aaron Douglas are attending ‘The Abbey‘, the Anglican Church’s annual gathering for young leaders, in Waikanae, on the Kapiti Coast north of Wellington. The Abbey 2015 promises to be another great chance to meet, discuss, laugh, pray, encourage, worship and eat with 200 other Anglican youth lead-ers who love Jesus and who love working with young people. More on www. anglicanyouth.org.nz/theabbey The Abbey began on Friday and ends later today. Diana will be speaking on her experiences at Abbey on Sunday September 23 at the 9.30am service. And next Saturday, Kristy Ferguson flies out to Rome for the International Christian Leadership course, at the Anglican Centre. More information is in Saints Alive, out today, including the website for the conference, and how to receive updates from her while she is at the conference. And Judy is at Stewart Island – following the discovery last Saturday that the service had been moved on a week! Yours on this ever-eventful journey of faith… Richard.

AAW MEETING The next AAW Meeting will be held on Wednesday, 2 September starting at 2pm with the service at All Saints Church followed by a short meeting. Afternoon tea is at Braemar Home Baking Shop.

FIRST ‘GROWMORE’ GROUP MEETING FOR NEW GROWING YEAR

Today at Neville Hore’s home, 29 Kirkoswald Street, Wallacetown. 12 noon, bring something to share for lunch. If you have seeds or seedlings to share with others, bring them along... See you all then! Steve Mitchell.

O God in whom all life begins, who births the seed to fruit, bestow your blessing on our lives; here let your love find root. Bring forth in us the Spirit’s gifts of patience, joy, and peace; deliver us from numbing fear, and grant our faith increase. Unite in mutual ministry our minds and hands and hearts that we may have the grace to seek the power your peace imparts. So let our varied gifts combine to glorify your Name that in all things by word and deed, we may your love proclaim. Through tears and laughter, grief and joy, enlarge our trust and care; so bind us in community that we may risk and dare. Be with us when we gather here to worship, sing, and pray, then send us forth in power and faith to live the words we say.

PARISH SOCIAL SATURDAY On Saturday September 5, Jo Riksem from Stewart Island will be our guest speaker at a potluck tea. Jo runs a homestay business on Stew-art Island, and is an elder with the Oban Presbyterian Church. She has a wonderful story to tell of her adventures growing up as a ‘missionary kid’ in India, and of how she ended up on Stewart Island.

NEXT SUNDAY 8am – Holy Communion 9.30am – All-age Holy Communion, extended morning tea (plates appreciated, thank you!) 7pm – Night Church.

Order of service at 9.30am: Celtic Communion Hymns: Opening: O God in whom all life begins Gradual: 238 Blessed are the pure in heart Offertory: 358 Father who in Jesus found us Communion: In the quiet consecration

OPENING HYMN Tune: It came upon a midnight clear’

CLOSING HYMN

In the quiet consecration of this glad communion hour, here we rest in you, Lord Jesus, taste your love and touch your power. Here we learn through sacred symbol all your grace can be and do, by this wonderful indwelling - you in us, and we in you. Christ the living bread from heaven, Christ whose blood is drink indeed, here by faith and with thanksgiving, in our hearts, on you we feed. By your death for sin atoning, by your resurrection-life, hold us fast in joyful union, strengthen us to face the strife. While afar in solemn radiance shines the feast that is to come - after conflict, heaven's glory, your great feast of love and home.

God who sets us on a journey to discover, dream and grow, lead us as you led your people, in the desert long ago; journey inward, journey outward, stir the spirit, stretch the mind, love for God and self and neighbour marks the way that Christ defined. Exploration brings new insights, changes, choices we must face; give us wisdom in deciding, mindful always of your grace; should we stumble, lose our bear-ings, find it hard to know what's right, we regain our true direction, focused on the Jesus light. End our longing for the old days, grant the vision that we lack - once we've started on this journey there can be no turning back; let us travel light, discarding excess baggage from our past, cherish only what's essential, choosing treasure that will last.. When we set up camp and settle to avoid love's risk and pain, you disturb complacent comfort, pull the tent pegs up again; keep us travelling in the knowledge you are always at our side; give us courage for the journey, Christ our goal and Christ our guide.
