I often wonder if something of value surfaces. Jesus tells us what the treasure is, what the pearl of great price is, but how do I react? Does it move me, to put other things aside, to move below the surface and discover how blessed I am? We might hear the detector signal us, but we must bend, sift and reach out to discover what is really important for our spiritual lives. The treasure and the pearl are the life of grace, the gift of God’s very life, accepted by me, and shared with others. What are the treasure and pearl for me today?

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK Sadly we are seeing a resurgence of the Coronavirus inflicting many people with its violent symptoms and pain. Many people have prudently decided not to travel this summer on vacation. For myself I am enjoying the summer by being in the company of close friends. We are doing picnics and cookouts or just simple snacks on patios and porches. These types of gatherings reaffirm my friendships with these people as we laugh and tell our stories of the significance of our relationships. We sit back and listen and reminisce about good times together. The crowds in our Gospel today are doing similar; they sit back and ponder Jesus’ storytelling in the form of parables. Parables made His lessons about the kingdom memorable in ways that a straightforward narrative or a formal setting would fail. Now is our turn to

listen to Jesus as He relaxes on our porches and patios spending time with the people He loves – US! Let us savor this time, ruminating on the rich images and considering the meaning of Jesus’ story-telling with us. PARISH MASS SCHEDULES & SACRAMENTS IN PART A OF THE GREEN PHASE No one is obligated or pressured to attend Mass at this time! Do not come to church if one feels ill or if you have been exposed to someone who is suspected of having COVID-19! Still must wear masks in the presence of others! Still must maintain social distance!

Saturday Open Air Vigil Mass at Queen of Universe Cemetery. Please arrive at 3:30PM; Mass at 4PM. No Mass in event of rain. Please bring a lawn chair, bug repellent, and a hat for the sun. Sunday Masses: 8:30AM & 10:30AM. Doors open 30 minutes before Mass.

Governor Wolf advises ALL Pennsylvanians who travel to the following States to quarantine themselves for 14 days upon their return to the Commonwealth: Alabama Mississippi Arizona Nevada Arkansas North Carolina California South Carolina Florida Tennessee Georgia Texas Idaho Utah Louisiana

As your pastor I am concerned for every parishioner, I ask you to follow Governor Wolf’s advice and not come to Mass that weekend until you are certain you are Covid Free. We have a responsibility to protect each other.

SECOND COLLECTIONS This week will be for Cemetery Upkeep. Next week will be for Cemetery Upkeep. REST IN PEACE To Christine Rennick. Our prayers for Babe during these difficult times. WE WELCOME AS NEW ALTAR SERVERS We welcome Mattea Anthony and Abigail Rhode as new parish altar servers. James will be training them so they will be prepared when once again we can begin to schedule servers for Mass. Please call the rectory early this week if your child would also like to become an altar server.

PRAYER AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

Lord Jesus Christ, our Divine Physician, we ask you to guard and protect us from Coronavirus COVID-19 and all serious illness. For all that have died from it, have mercy; for those that are ill now, bring healing. For those searching for a remedy, enlighten them; for medical caregivers helping the sick, strengthen and shield them. For those working to contain the spread, grant them success; for those afraid, grant peace. May your precious blood be our defense and salvation. By your grace, may you turn the evil of disease into memories of consolation and hope. May we always fear the contagion of sin more than any illness. We abandon ourselves to your infinite mercy. Amen. - Pedro de la Cruz

We continue to add more videos of Masses, messages, and other specials to our YouTube channel and Facebook. Until we go completely green, Mass will continue to be videotaped and added to YouTube on Sunday afternoons. SPECIAL COLLECTION Each year our diocese and our parish take up a special collection for the Mission Cooperative to help promote the physical and spiritual well-being to the Catholic Church in the Third World Nations. This year when we were informed that it had been cancelled because of the Pandemic, we cancelled the envelope that normally comes with the June-July mailing. This year there will be no missionary to speak at Masses but it is important that we support their efforts. Therefore, the Yellow Mission Co-op envelope is included with the August-September mailing. We ask you to drop the Mission Co-op envelope in the basket anytime during August. This year our Parish’s efforts will benefit the Dominican Friars. SAFE ENVIRONMENT INFORMATION FOR ALL PARISH VOLUNTEERS Thank you for your service to our parish. We appreciate the time you give and we need you! Many are now coming due to have their background checks redone. We will be notifying those affected. Please respond ASAP. If you are working in the public school system and the clearances we require are less than five years old, we need to know. They may be acceptable. Please call Mary Ann during business hours.
