…collaborative work our staff has done with the support of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) coach Ilene Fortune. Ilene and I will be in Chicago, with educators from around the country, this Thursday and Friday for a PBIS conference and series of workshops funded by the US Department of Education. Although, in many ways it seems that we just started this school year, the enrollment window for next year is already upon us! Now is the time for 5th grade families to learn about and visit middle schools. Meanwhile, please help us spread the word about Kaiser to next year’s prospective Kindergarten families. A flier is included in this edition of The Pink Panther and more info is at www.KaiserElementary.org/enroll. Please share this with friends, family, neighbors and preschools in your community. Finally, I want to close with a celebration and appreciation. Our incredible Grants Committee and I collaborated at the start of the year on a grant proposal to The Barrios Foundation, asking for their support in helping us fund a plan, with 3 and 5 year benchmarks, to envision how Kaiser will become a school with world class instructional technology. Recently we received word that we will be given the maximum $10,000 available! If you would like to be a part of this project, please let me know, as we will be building an advisory team. What are some of your favorite things about your school? I like my teachers and my teachers from last year. They treat me nice. I like math and science, especially experiments. What are some of the things you have done to be Safe, Mindful, and Responsible at Kaiser? I got my first Panther Paw when a friend and I picked up trash. Now I help with the Cafeteria Leadership Team. I help younger kids open lunch things, encourage them to keep quiet, and to tell an adult if there is a bee or wasp in the cafeteria. What are your future goals and aspirations? I am reading a Big Nate book series, and I really want to complete that series. I would like to be a professional bowler, and maybe be a principal at Kaiser some day! What advice do you have for younger students at Kaiser? Remember to listen to your teacher, not to bully other kids, and to be sure to share things.

Our annual Halloween Parade is fast approaching. It will take place on Monday, October 31st at 2:00pm. To ensure that this is a fun and safe event, please review the information below. Guidelines:

Costumes must be brought to school in a bag (not worn throughout the day) No weapons or imitation weapons are allowed Students may not bring candy. Families are encouraged and welcome to participate. (In costume if you like!)

There will be an alternative space with fun non-Halloween activities for the children of any families that would prefer that their child not participate. Please notify your child’s teacher directly and in advance to request this. It is very important that Halloween candy received while Trick or Treating does not come to school later in the week. Thanks for your support!

A MESSAGE FROM REBECCAWhat impressed me most about Kaiser when we were looking at schools was the obviously high number of volunteers on campus. It really adds to the sense of community, and you can feel the energy and care in the whole space. It really really takes a village, and our community is packed with folks who generously give their time and energy to help make Kaiser the great school that it is. I feel really lucky to have the opportunity to help in facilitating that, and to have gotten to know so many of the kids, families, and staff that make this place so wonderful. I'm also learning as I go, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to help the events and everyday needs that volunteers make possible happen. We have a lot of roles, big and small, that still need to be filled, but I'd like to highlight a few that are most pressing at this time. Our Auction is the biggest fundraiser of the year, and we need a lot of hands to help with organizing and getting ready for that. This is a huge deal for funding the programs that all our kids enjoy, so we really need it to be a success! There are all types of roles for this, with varying degrees of time commitments, so even if you don't have a ton of time to spare we can find something for you to do. I am also working on getting the Garden Club going for this year, so if you are interested in helping with that please let me know! Keep your eyes open for more info on the first meeting in the coming weeks. Thank all of you so much for the time and energy you give! If you have any questions or comments you can reach me at [email protected]

I would like to take this opportunity to present our Membership and Volunteer Chair. She is a lovely, hard working parent who is dedicated to organizing and making sure that all of our Kaiser PTA events are a success. If you see her around campus, be sure to share your appreciation and encouragement. Better yet, join in her efforts. Thank you Rebecca for all you do. You are amazing!

I am looking forward to a great turn-out at the Fall Costume Ball this Friday, October 28th from 6:30-7:30. We have a fun evening planned! Please see next page of the Pink Panther for more details! All students are invited to come dressed up in their favorite costumes and be fierce, mysterious, scary and most of all, fabulous! Linda Handy Kaiser PTA President
