    July 14 and 15, 2018

Eternal God, You have called us to be members of one body. Join us with those who in all times and places have praised your name, that, with one heart and mind, we may show the unity of your church, and bring honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

  • We warmly welcome you to worship at The Presbyter ian Church in Basking Ridge. We pray that you will be encouraged in your journey of faith and drawn closer to God by your experience with us.

Amplification Headsets So that all may enjoy the worship service, sound amplification headsets are available from the ushers for those who need assis-tance with hearing.

Online Sermons Recorded audio sermons from most Sundays are available on the church website at www.brpc.org. To access, click on the Ser-mons link under Worship and Music on the main menu.

Children and Families Childcare for infants and children ages 2 and younger is available in the church nursery during our Sunday morning services. Pagers are used to contact parents during the worship services when necessary.

Oak Table Service We believe that worship nurtures children and that children enrich our worship life together. If your children become restless in worship, please feel free to quietly move around with them or join them on the carpet for young children behind the seating area.

Sunday Worship Service 9:30 am Nursery care is available for children age 2 years and younger and children of any age who find it difficult to remain in the worship service.

    Welcome

Who Does God Call Us to Be? We are a vibrant, warm and welcoming community of faith. Those who worship here come from a diverse range of backgrounds and would describe themselves in a rich variety of ways.

We acknowledge our doubt, our struggles, and that we are all quite human and imperfect and that we are each at a unique place on our faith journey.

We find our unity, our common identity, in Jesus Christ and together we seek to joyfully worship God and energetically minister to the needs of the world on God’s behalf.

We gather in anticipation of being transformed by the power, purpose and presence of God among us, and go forth equipped to love God and neighbor more deeply and more whole-heartedly.

We believe that faithful leadership of a church requires being open to new possibilities, tak-ing risks and learning from mistakes as we try again.

Honoring the past, we are convinced that God calls us to a new future.

Sunday School and Nursery Update for Summer During the summer months, we will not have formal Sunday School classes. All children are welcome to stay in worship. Be sure to pick up an age-appropriate bulletin and activity sheet to make it easier for our youngest church family members to stay engaged. We realize that this may not be ideal for some children who may not be ready or willing to sit for an extended period of time. Please know that we are relaxing our nursery guidelines and general structure for the summer to ensure that everyone has a positive worship experience. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Ward at [email protected].

  • Update on Sanctuary and Chapel Roofs Dear Friends,

Many of you have probably noticed that work on our old slate roofs is progressing at a very rapid pace. In fact, our roofing contractor – Alden Bailey Restoration – has indicated that work is well ahead of schedule. The Chapel roof, including new snowguards and new cop-per gutters, is complete. Most of the work on the North Finley side of the Sanctuary is also done. And work crews are in the process of prepping the interior side of the Sanctuary. If all proceeds as planned, the Sanctuary roof should be completed by early August. Mean-while, painting and restoration of the facia and molding around the sides of the church is underway. Some final paint work and installation of new copper leaders (gutter down-spouts) will follow completion of the roofs. Given the age of the Sanctuary roof (which is nearly 150 years old), it came as no surprise that some sheathing underneath the original slate was in poor condition. Our contractor also noted that some of the paint work was more involved than expected given the number of layers that had to be removed, including extra sanding and wood fill. But the results are beautiful! Last week, during a routine project inspection, our Historical Architect (Connolly and Hick-ey) identified that certain rafters in specific sections of the Sanctuary attic are in decline and require reinforcement. They are working in close coordination with our roofing contractor to provide recommendations and cost estimates for these important repairs, which they ex-pect can be completely quickly and without delaying the rest of the work. So far, we are very pleased with the progress and results, and are grateful for the profession-alism of our contractor and the work crews. We will continue to provide periodic updates as the project progresses toward completion. Sincerely, Jay Link and Michael Poehner On behalf of the Trustees
