    The Prophet Mosheh and the Name ofhwhy

    aThe prophet Mosheh (Moses) had a special ministry to reveal the Name of

    hwhyto the

    nation of Yisrael1

    as well as to the entire world.2

    In revealing the Name (haShem, in

    Hebrew), Mosheh would also give his nation the written Torah ofhwhy Elyon.3 And it wasall so fitting, since the Name ofhwhy is the Almightysspecial signature, His Sealofapproval, as it were, upon all He has said and upon all He has inspired to be written. Further

    study will show the Name ofhwhy and His Spirit/Presence are inseparable: the Spiritembodies His Name and the Name embodies His Spirit.

    4If we truly honor His Name,

    5we

    will also have His Spirit;6

    if we truly honor His Spirit, we will also know and honor His

    Name:7

    We will know and call upon the Name ofhwhy in prayer and worship.8Mosheh was called by hwhy to reveal His great Name to Yisrael in a new and living way:

    the people would see His love and power in subduing the mighty nation of Mitsrayim/Egypt;they would see His love and power in the dividing of Yam Suf (the Sea of Reeds); they would

    see His love and power in the provision of manna from heaven and water to drink in the

    desert; they would see His love and power in the thundering of the Torah from Mount Sinai;

    and they would see His love and power in subduing their enemies in the Land of Promise.9

    The Revelation at the Burning BushTheologians seem to enjoy throwing around big words: When the Almighty appears to a

    prophet, they like to call it a theophany. Scriptures simply say that hwhyappearedtoMosheh at the burning bush; there is no need to give it a fancy name. And instead of getting

    caught up in the typical theological, philosophical, and unverifiable discussion regarding the

    particulars of how this all occurred, we choose to simply accept the straightforwardstatements of Scripture and to stay with the message: Elohim appearedto Mosheh and spoke

    to the prophet from the midst of a bush that burned, but was not consumed. Through

    unnecessary speculation many stray from true wisdomtypified by a crystal clear brook of

    living water.10

    Afterhwhy saw Mosheh had turned aside to see the burning bush, it was onlythen that He spoke to the shepherd!

    Matthew 6:9, Malachi 3:16-18, Deuteronomy 28:58 < > Acts 5:32: these latter two texts point to each other and showus that hwhy gives His Spirit to those who honor His Name by keeping His Torah.6 Psalm 23:3 < > Romans 8:14. We are guided for His Names sake, yet this guidance comes through His Spirit! Does

    this leave any doubt about the Name-Spirit connection?7 Exodus 31:12-13, Isaiah 52:6-7 (The Messiah was the Ultimate Revealer of the Name [John 17:6,26] as His beautiful

    feet proclaimed the Good News on the mountains of Yisrael. Thus, the text of Isaiah 52:6-7 was literally fulfilledwheneswhyrevealed the Name in so many ways during the Sermon on the Mount. Matthew 5-7), Micah 6:98 Those who are of the faith of Abraham are heirs according to the promise (Romans 4:12, 16, Galatians 3:7-9). And

    Abraham, the father of all the faithful, both spoke and called upon the Name ofhwhy. Genesis 12:8, 13:4, 21:339Psalm 136shows it was the loving kindness (chesed) of which was behind all these things.10 Proverbs 18:411 Exodus 3:3-4

    splendors ofhwhyrevealed in His creation.12

    This is notworshipping nature (as some will

    charge) provided we are ascribing greatness to hwhy as the Creator. His Word provides veryclear indications hwhy wishes to speak to us through His handiwork.13

    When hwhy appeared to Mosheh, the shepherd of Midian was directed to go to Egypt andbring forth Yisrael out of bondage. Mosheh then questioned Elohim regarding His Name:

    13 And Mosheh said to Elohim, Behold, when I come to the children of Yisrael, and shall sayto them, The Elohim of your fathers has sent me to you; and they will say to me, What is His

    Name? What shall I say to them? 14 And Elohim said to Mosheh, I AM THAT I AM: and Hesaid, Thus you shall say to the children of Yisrael, I AM has sent me to you. Exodus 3:14-15

    In Hebrew, the phrase I Am that I Am, looks like this:

    = hyha rSa hyha = Ayeh asher Ayeh = I AM that I AMI AM that I AM I AM that I AM

    Only hwhy can say hyha, that is: I ( a ) Am ( hyh ), I (ever) Exist, for He alonepossesses immortality.

    14And this reveals the most basic meaning of His Name: When His

    worshippers refer to hwhyby His Name, the aleph ( a ), the Hebrew prefix meaning I,becomes a yod ( y ), the Hebrew prefix meaning He: this gives the Name hwhy, meaning,He ( y ), is ( hwh ). So the Name ofhwhy literally means, He is. And the Spirit revealstherein that the Name ofhwhy is essential for having the faith which truly pleases Him.15 Forwe immediately realize the writer to the Hebrews was referring to the immutable Name of

    hwhy (and the revelation made at the burning bush) when teaching of the essential faithrequired for salvation:

    But without faith it is impossible to please Him:

    for he that comes to Elohim must believe thatHe is,

    and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

    Hebrews 11:6

    The above text is a direct reference to the statement made by hwhy to Mosheh:I AM that I AM

    We look at a portion of the New Covenant text once more, only with the phrase I Am that I

    Am displayed directly beneath it:

    he that comes to Elohim must believe thatHe is and that He is a Rewarder I AM that I AM

    The phrase He is directly refers to the Name, hwhythe Name which literally means, Heis! While it may not be immediately apparent how the second phrase (He is a Rewarder)fits the revelation made to Mosheh, bear with our discourse for a brief moment and the truth

    will manifest itself. Only a few lines earlier, the author of this letter had written the following

    about the coming of the Messiah:

    35 Do not cast away, therefore, your confidence, which has great recompense

    ofreward. 36 For you have need of patience, that after you have done the

    will of Elohim, you might receive the promise. 37 For yet a little while,

    and He thatis to come, will come, and will not tarry.

    Hebrews 10:35-37

    We see this coming of the Messiah is clearly connected to a reward, just as it is clearly

    connected to a punishment!16 Other texts, too, indicate the nature of this second I Am,17and in those Scriptures, we have reference to the very Presence ofhwhycoming into a greater,

    more visible, ruling force in the every day affairs and history of man.18

    This coming will

    necessarily include the reward and punishment which His justice requires Him to mete out at

    the time of His appearing. And we have further evidence of the truth of this matter. After

    receiving his vision of theApocalypse, Yochanan/John wrote the following regarding the

    phrase I Am that I Am:

    4 Yochanan, to the seven assemblies which are in Asia:

    Favor to you and peace, fromHe who is, and who was,

    andwho is to come; and from the seven Spirits

    which are before His throne. Revelation 1:4

    We know this is also the understanding which hwhy Himself sets forth regarding the phrase,I Am that I Am, because John was only able to write this to the believers after hearing it

    from the Most High:

    8 I am the Aleph and the Tav, the Beginning and the End, says hwhy:

    Who is, and Who was, and Who is to comethe Shaddai.Revelation 1:4

    This helps us to better understand the phrase, I Am that I Am:

    The first I Am in the phrase refers to the fact that hwhy exists nowbecause He has alwaysexisted from eternity past: the first I Am means, Who is, and Who was,

    The second I Am in the phrase refers to the fact that hwhy intends to bring the fullness ofHis Presenceback into mans history, and because of His nature and character, He will

    reward each person with honor19

    or wrath20

    at that time: the second I Am relates to the

    phrase, Who is to come There are other Scriptures which confirm this connection

    between the fact that He isyet to come21

    and the fact that, when He does come, He will

    appear with reward (and punishment). hwhy intends for the reality of His eventual coming toloom large in our minds. If the reality of that Daywhen His sovereign Kingdom permeates

    all things in every society worldwideperpetually abides in our hearts, then we will truly

    number among those who revere His Name. Honoring His Name is more than just believing

    He is: we must also believe thatHe comes;we must be sobered by the reality that He is

    coming with a reward for those who have been faithful, and that He will mete out punishment

    upon those who have worked evil.22

    Hence, it was also a reference to the Name ofhwhywhen eswhystated:

    Behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me,

    to render to each man according as his work is.

    Revelation 22:12

    It is quite clear, here, that reward may be either positive or negative.Having established from Scripture itselfsome of the meaning and importance of the Name of

    hwhy,23 we close this section by establishing the misparim for the phrase I AM THAT IAM. We obtain the misparim for this phrase as follows:

    = hyha rSa hyha = Ayeh asher Ayeh = I AM THAT I AMI AM that I AM I AM that I AM

    543 =(5) h +(10) y + (5) h + (1)a + (200) r + (300) S + (1) a + (5) h + (10) y + (5) h +(1) aWe will immediately see why the number543 is a value of such stunning significance!

    The Misparim of Mosheh and the Name ofhwhyIn Hebrew, the name of Mosheh has the following misparim value:

    345 = (5) h + (300) S + (40) m = hSm = Mosheh = MosesBut if the number 345 is reversed, notice we return, once more, to the number 543the

    misparim of the Hebrew phrase, I AM THAT I AM. Consequently, we can safely say

    54324

    called 345 (Mosheh) to further reveal His Name and His Torah.

    But it gets even better! We are yet further amazed to see that, if the Hebrew letters which

    compose the name of Mosheh (hSm) are written in the reverse order, we obtain the Hebrew

    word haShem (MSh), a word which translates into the phrase meaning the Name. Forthose who are in the beginning stages of learning Hebrew, we further explain that while m(mem) and M (mem) look different, they are still thesame Hebrew letter. The latter mem (M)is called the mem sofeet because its form/shape is altered whenever it takes the last

    position in a Hebrew word. Having the same three letters, the misparim for the phrase, the

    Name (haShem) is, of course, equivalent to the misparim of Mosheh:

    345 = (40) M + (300) S + (5) h = MSh = haShem = the NameGiven the ministry of Mosheh was inspired to more greatly reveal the Name ofhwhy, weassert it is beyond the amazingto realize that Moshehs name reversedis haShem, the

    Hebrew word which means the Name. And once more, we are given great blessings ofencouragement upon realizing the Sovereign Hand ofhwhyso often hidden to us in ourhuman frailty and shortsighted, mortal visionis nevertheless there whether it abides seen or

    unseen.25

    His ways are past finding out26

    even as the shaliach27

    O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of Elohim!

    How unsearchable are His judgments, and His ways past finding out!

    Romans 11:33

    We will see there are numerous connections to be made with the numbers 543 and 345, and

    these are relationships which can be nothing less than inspiredby the Sovereign Hand of One

    whose mind possesses infinite wisdom and foreknowledge, and whose heart is filled withinfinite love and kindness.

    Exodus 6:3 is a QuestionDesiring to excuse themselves from any obligation to honor the Memorial Name,

    perhaps unable to let go of man made traditions spawnedby inaccurate Bible translations and

    denominational idolatry, a great many sincere, but misled people attempt to use the text of

    Exodus 6:3 to show the Name ofhwhy was not even known to Yisrael before He revealed it toMosheh. Nothing could be farther from the truth. And perhaps eswhywould rebuke thesewell-meaning believers (or at least their misguided, misinformed predecessors) for simply not

    knowing, or acknowledging, the simple statements of Scripture.29

    We will momentarily

    assume the text of Exodus 6:3 was a statement, that it was nota question, and see theproblems which immediately arise from such an unwise and unlearned position. Except for a

    more correct rendering of names and titles, below is the text as it appears in the KJV:30

    And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Yitschak, and unto Yaacob,

    by El Shaddai, but by My Name hwhywas I not known to them.Exodus 6:3

    If we assume/believe this text records astatementan assertionthen we immediately

    introduce glaring contradictions into the Scriptures. Assuming this text was nota question,

    but a statement, we see it makes absolutely no sense when compared to earlier revelation set

    forth in the Book ofGenesis

    . If this Scripture was anassertion

    by hwhy that the patriarchsmentioned did notknow His Name, then we should simply discard the Scriptures and lookelsewhere for both direction and salvation. For we have more than enough evidence to show

    all three of these patriarchs knew hwhy, worshipped hwhy, spoke the Name ofhwhy, andcalled upon hwhy by His Name, hwhy. We now present this weighty, irrefutable evidence.Abraham

    There are many Scriptures showing Abraham, the father of the faithful, called upon hwhyand addressed Him by this very Name

    Afterhwhybrought Abram up out of Ur of the Chaldees, and after he obeyed hwhyby goingforth from Haran (removing himself from his fathers household and the land of his

    nativity31), the patriarch then received an even greater, stronger, and clearer vision of theMost High: hwhy appearedto him

    7 Andhwhyappeared to Abram and said, To your seed I will give this land.

    And there he built an altar to hwhy, who appeared to him. 8 And he removed from

    there to the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el

    on the west, and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to hwhy,

    and called upon the Name ofhwhy.Genesis 12:7-8

    3 And he went on his journeys from the south even to Beth-el,

    to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai,

    4 to the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first.

    And there Abram called on the Name ofhwhy.

    Genesis 13:4

    Later, Abram wouldspeak the Name ofhwhy to thepagan kingof Sodom:21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, Give me the persons, and take the

    goods for yourself. 22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to

    hwhy, the Most High El, the Possessor of the heavens and earth, 23 that I will not take

    from a thread even to a shoelatchet, and that I will not take anything that is yours,lest you should say, I have made Abram rich. Genesis 14:21-23

    Then comes the special day upon which hwhy made a covenant with Abram:32 at this time, theMost High uttered His Name to the prophet, and at this time, Abram addressed hwhytwice asAdonai hwhy, meaning My Sovereign hwhy:1 After these things, the word ofhwhycame to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I

    am your shield, and your exceeding great reward. 2 And Abram said, My Sovereign hwhy,

    what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of

    Damascus? 3 And Abram said, Behold, to me You have given no seed: and, behold, one

    born in my house is my heir. 4 And, behold, the word ofhwhycame to him, saying, Thisshall not be your heir; but he that shall come forth out of your own bowels shall be your

    heir. 5 And He brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the

    stars, if you are able to number them. And He said to him, So shall your seed be. 6 And

    he believed in hwhy, and He counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And He said to him, I am

    hwhythat brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it. 8 And hesaid, My Sovereign hwhy, whereby shall I know that I will inherit it? Genesis 15:1-8

    If we read that Abram addressed hwhy as My Sovereign hwhy, how can we, in any way,imagine (much less claim) he did not know the Name ofhwhy? Yet not only did Abram

    speakthe Name, but his wife, Sarai,33

    also uttered the Name of

    hwhy:

    1 Now Sarai, Abrams wife, bore him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian,

    whose name was Hagar. 2 And Sarai said to Abram,

    Behold now, hwhyhas restrained me from bearing: I pray you,

    go in to my maid; it may be that I will obtain children by her.

    And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai. 3 And Sarai, Abrams wife, took Hagar, her

    maid, the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to

    her husband, Abram, to be his wife. 4 And he went in to Hagar, and she conceived: and when

    she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes. 5 And Sarai said to

    Abram,

    My wrong be upon you: I have given my maid into your bosom,

    and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes:hwhyjudge between me and you.

    Genesis 16:1-534

    In the above text, we read Sarai uttered the Name ofhwhy two times. If Abraham did notknow the Name, how then did Sarah? Of course, Abraham didknow hwhy and His Name.On the way to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, hwhy once more spoke His Name to Abraham:13 Andhwhysaid to Abraham,

    Why did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I certainly bear a child, who am old?

    14 Is any thing too hard forhwhy? At the time appointed, I will return to you,according to the time of life, and Sarah will have a son.

    15 Then Sarah denied, saying, I did not laugh, for she was afraid. And He said, No, but

    you did laugh. 16 And the men rose up from there, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham

    went with them to bring them on the way. 17 Andhwhysaid,

    Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; 18 seeing that Abraham will

    surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed

    in him? 19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him,

    and they will keep the way ofhwhy, to do justice and judgment; thathwhymay

    bring upon Abraham that which He has spoken of him.Genesis 18:13-19

    In this incident, hwhy spoke His Name to Abraham three times: once in verse 14 and twice inverse 19. How, then, would the patriarch notknow the Name ofhwhy? Once they hadarrived in Sodom, the heavenly messengers spoke the Name ofhwhy to Lot, who, in turn,warned his son-in-laws by uttering an admonition which includedspeaking to them the Name

    ofhwhy: bring them out of this place: 13 For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them

    has grown great before the face ofhwhy; andhwhyhas sent us to destroy it. 14 And Lot went

    out, and spoke to his son-in-laws, which married his daughters, and said, Up, you get out of

    this place: forhwhywill destroy this city. But to his son-in-laws, he seemed as one thatmocked. Genesis 18:13-19

    After being tested by hwhy, Abraham gave a special name to the place at which he had beenprepared to offer up his only son, Yitschak/Isaac:

    14 And Abraham called the name of that place hwhyYireh:

    34 By the way, Eve spoke the Name ofhwhy, too (Genesis 4:1) as did Noachs father, Lamech (Genesis 5:28-29) asdid Noach (Genesis 9:26)

    as it is said to this day, In the Mountain ofhwhyit shall be seen.

    Genesis 22:14

    The patriarch was surely overwhelmedwith the deepest joy and gratitude at this moment in

    his life: he was overflowing with gratitude for the deliverance which hwhy had brought aboutin not permitting him to offer his only son; and so we hear Abraham magnifying the Name of

    hwhy with apermanent memorialof that special time and place: hwhy Yireh.Finally, we have still another text showing Abraham called upon the Name ofhwhy:

    31 Therefore, he called that place Beer-sheba: because there they swore both of them.

    32 Thus, they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. Then Abimelech arose, and Phichol

    the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

    33 And he planted a grove in Beer-sheba, and called there on

    the Name ofhwhy, the Age-Abiding El.Genesis 21:33

    Yet this is still not all: Abraham commissioned his servant to go forth on a journey to select a

    wife for Yitschak, and he made theservantswear by the Name ofhwhy to select a wife whowas not of the land of Canaan:

    3 And I will make you swear by hwhy, the Elohim of heaven, and the Elohim

    of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son of the daughters

    of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell

    Genesis 24:3

    hwhy, Elohim of heaven, which took me from my fathers house, and from

    the land of my kindred, and which spoke to me, and that swore to me, saying,

    Unto your seed I will give this land, He will send His messenger before you,

    and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

    Genesis 24:7

    Subsequently, this servant not only prayed to hwhy in the Name ofhwhy (as he sought forsuccess and blessings on the journey), he later magnified and spoke the Name ofhwhy, beingexceedingly grateful for the providence which helped to bring about His sovereign will:

    12 And he said, hwhy, Elohim of my master Abraham, please meet before me this day, and

    show kindness to my master, Abraham. 13 Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the

    daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water: 14 and let it come to pass, that the

    young woman to whom I will say, Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink, and she

    will say, Drink, and I will water your camels also, let the same be she that You have

    appointed for Your servant Yitschak; and by that I will know that You have shown kindness tomy master. Genesis 24:12-14

    As he later sounded forth great thanksgiving to hwhy, Abrahams servant said the following inresponse to finding Rebekah and her family

    27 And he said, Blessed be hwhy, Elohim of my master, Abraham, who has not left destitute

    my master of His kindness and His truth: I being in the way, hwhyled me to the house of mymasters brothers. Genesis 24:27

    Laban then spoke the Name ofhwhy to this servant

    31 And he said, Come in, you blessed ofhwhy; why do you stand without?

    For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.

    Genesis 24:31

    Are we to suppose that Laban knew and spoke the Name ofhwhy and Abraham did not?Then the servant recounts the commission which Abraham had given him and the events

    which transpired in his travels to find Rebekah:

    34 And he said, I am Abraham's servant. 35 Andhwhyhas blessed my master greatly, and he

    has become great: and he has given him flocks, and herds, and silver, and gold, and men-

    servants, and maid-servants, and camels, and donkeys. 36 And Sarah, my masters wife, bore

    a son to my master when she was old: and to him he has given all that he has. 37 And my

    master made me swear, saying, You shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the

    Canaanites, in whose land I dwell: 38 but you shall go to my fathers house, and to my

    kindred, and take a wife for my son. 39 And I said to my master, It may be the woman will

    not follow me. 40 And he said to me, hwhy, before whom I walk, will send His messenger

    with you, and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of

    my fathers house. 41 Then shall you be clear from my oath, when you come to my kindred;

    and if they give you not, you will be clear from my oath. 42 And I came this day to the well,

    and said, hwhy, Elohim of my master Abraham, if now You will prosper my way which I go

    43 Behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass, that when the virgin

    comes forth to draw water, and I say to her, Give me, I pray you, a little water of your pitcher

    to drink; 44 and she says to me, You drink, and I will also draw for your camels: let the same

    speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she

    went down to the well, and drew water: and I said to her, Let me drink, I pray you. 46 And

    she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give

    your camels drink also. So I drank, and she made the camels drink also. 47 And I asked

    her, and said, Whose daughter are you? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahorsson, whom Milcah bore to him. And I put the ear-ring upon her face, and the bracelets

    upon her hands. 48 And I bowed my head, and worshippedhwhy, and blessedhwhy, Elohim of

    my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my masters brothers daughter

    for his son. Genesis 24:34-48

    Considering only the above text, we seeAbrahams servantspoke the Name ofhwhysix timeswithout inhibition or hindrance. In response to the Most Highs choice of Rebekah, Laban

    and Bethuel also spoke the Name ofhwhy (after which, the servant spoke the Name oncemore):

    50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceeds from hwhy: we cannotspeak to you bad or good. 51 Behold, Rebekah is before you, take her, and go, and let her be

    your masters sons wife, as hwhyhas spoken. 52 And it came to pass, that, when Abrahams

    servant heard their words, he worshippedhwhy, bowing himself to the earth. 56 And he said

    to them, Hinder me not, seeinghwhyhas prospered my way; send me away that I may go tomy master. Genesis 24:50-56

    If Abraham, his wife, and his servants all knew,spoke, and called upon the Name ofhwhy, itis only reasonable to expect his son, Yitschak, would do likewise.

    35We will now see this was

    clearly the case

    Yitschak/Isaac

    We first hear of Yitschak calling upon the Name ofhwhy on behalf of his wife, Rebekah, whowas initially barren:

    21 And Yitschak entreatedhwhyfor his wife, because she was barren:

    andhwhywas entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

    Genesis 25:21

    From these answered prayers came forth Jacob and Esau. Yitschak was sixty when his twin

    sons were born, and then came a famine upon the land. Initially, the house of Yitschak dwelt

    in Gerar with the Philistines, but after a division arose out of the inhabitants envy over his

    great prosperity, Yitschak moved to Beer-sheba:

    23 And he went up from there to Beer-sheba. 24 Andhwhyappeared to him the

    same night, and said, I am the Elohim of Abraham your father: fear not, for I am with you,

    and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abrahams sake. 25 And he builtan altar there, and called upon the Name ofhwhy, and pitched his tent there:

    and there Yitschaks servants dug a well. Genesis 26:23-25

    But after this time, Abimelech, Ahuzzath, and Phichol came forth from Gerar to make an oath

    of peace between themselves and Yitschak; notice that these uncircumcised men also had

    enough humility and/or fear36

    to speak/honor the Name ofhwhy and to seek peace withYitschak:

    26 And Abimelech, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phichol the captain of his host, went to him

    from Gerar. 27 And Yitschak said to them, Why have you come to me, seeing you hate me,

    and have driven me away from you? 28 And they said, We saw certainly thathwhywaswith you: and we said, Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and yourself,

    and let us make a covenant with you; 29 that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched

    you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace. You

    are now the blessed ofhwhy. 30 And he made them a feast, and they ate and drank. 31 And

    they rose early in the morning, and swore to one another; and Yitschak sent them away, andthey departed from him in peace. Genesis 26:26-31

    Since Yitschak was sixty when his sons were born, he was one hundred when Esau, at the age

    of forty, took two wives from the Chitti/Hittites.37

    From the time of the covenant with the

    Philistines, until he was approaching the time of his death, there was a span of nearly 100

    years;38 during this period, there is no written record of Yitschak uttering the Name ofhwhy,although we know he surely did.

    39But as the day of his passing loomed closer, the time to

    bless his firstborn son (in the Name ofhwhy) came also

    not see, he called Esau, his eldest son, and said to him, My son. And he said to him, Here

    am I. 2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death. 3 Now

    therefore take, please, your weaponsyour quiver and your bowand go out to the field,

    and take me venison. 4 And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I

    may eat: that my soul may bless you before I die. 5 And Rebekah heard when Yitschak

    spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it. 6 AndRebekah spoke to Yaacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard your father speak to Esau your

    brother, saying, 7 Bring me venison, and make me savory food, that I may eat, and bless you

    before hwhyprior to my death. Genesis 27:1-7

    Most will already know that, by pretending to be Esau, Yaacob, instead, inherited the

    blessing of the firstborn. Our intent, presently, is not to ponder the apparent deception and

    irony in it all, but simply to show this blessing came from Yitschak and was conferred upon

    his son in theName ofhwhy:

    20 And Yitschak said to his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And

    said, Because hwhyyour Elohim brought it to me. 22 And Yaacob went near to

    Yitschak, his father. And he felt him, and said, The voice is Yaacobs voice, but the hands

    are the hands of Esau. 23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his

    brother Esaus hands. So he blessed him. 24 And he said, Is this you my son Esau? And he

    said, I am. 25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my sons venison, that my

    soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat. And he brought him

    wine, and he drank. 26 And his father, Yitschak, said to him, Come near now, and kiss me,

    my son. 27 And he came near, and kissed him. And he smelled the smell of his garments,

    and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which hwhyhas

    blessed. 28 And Elohim give you of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and

    plenty of grain and new wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be

    sovereign over your brothers, and let your mothers sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone that curses you, and blessed be every one that blesses you. Genesis 27:20, 22-29

    Yaacob/Jacob

    Yaacob surely learned to know hwhythrough his father and mother, but as with each of us,he also had to have a personal encounterwith the Most High for the relationship to become

    completely real and tangible. hwhybegan to reveal Himself as Yaacob fled from thepresence of Esau en route to the house of Laban:

    10 And Yaacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went towards Haran. 11 And he came upon a

    certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set: and he took of the stones

    of that place, and put them for his pillows, and laid down in that place to sleep. 12 And hedreamed, and behold, a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and

    behold the messengers of Elohim ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, hwhystood

    above it, and said, I am hwhy, Elohim of Abraham, your father, and the Elohim of Yitschak:

    the land upon which you lie, to you I will give it, and to your seed; 14 and your seed shall be

    as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the

    north, and to the south: and in you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be

    become with me. 30 For it was little which you had before I came, and it has now

    increased into a multitude; andhwhyhas blessed you since the time I came:

    and now, when shall I also provide for my house?

    Genesis 30:29-30

    Due to distrust, Yaacob felt it was necessary to secretly break away from Laban, but the

    father-in-law soon caught up to his estranged family and, as events unfolded, the two partedin peace after Laban spoke forth the words of a covenant:

    44 and now, come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and it shall be for a witness

    between me and you. 45 And Yaacob took a stone, and lifted it up for a standing pillar; 46

    and Yaacob said to his brothers, Gather stones. And they took stones, and made a heap;

    and they ate there on the heap. 47 And Laban called it Yegar-Sahadutha, and Yaacob called

    it Galeed. 48 And Laban said, This heap is witness between me and you this day.

    Therefore, the name of it was called Galeed, 49 and Mizpah, for he said, hwhywatch

    between me and you when we are absent one from another: 50 If you afflict my daughters, or

    take wives beside my daughtersthere is no man with ussee, Elohim is witness between me

    and you. 51 And Laban said to Yaacob, Behold, this heap, and behold, the standing pillar

    which I have cast between me and you; 52 this heap is witness, and the standing pillar is

    witness, that I do not pass over this heap to you, and that you do not pass over this heap and

    this standing pillar to me for evil. 53 The Elohim of Abraham, and the Elohim of Nahor, the

    Elohim of their father will judge between us. And Yaacob swore by the Fear of his fatherYitschak. Genesis 31:44-53

    For many years, Yaacob knew he must one day face the brother who had determined to kill

    him: at this most difficult time, he called upon the Name ofhwhy as he sought deliverancefor himself and his family:

    6 And the messengers returned to Yaacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and alsohe is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him. 7 Then Yaacob was greatly

    afraid, and distressed: and he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks, and

    herds, and camels, into two bands; 8 and said, If Esau will come to the one company, and

    smite it, then the other company which is left, will escape. 9 And Yaacob said, Elohim of

    my father Abraham, and Elohim of my father Yitschak, hwhywho said to me, Return to your

    country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you: 10 I am not worthy of the least of

    all the kindness, and of all the truth, which You have shown to Your servant: for with my staff

    I passed over this Jordan, and now I have become two bands. 11 Deliver me now from the

    hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he shall come and smite me,

    and the mother with the children. 12 And You said, I will surely do you good, and make yourseed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. Genesis 32:6-12

    We see Yaacob praying in the Name ofhwhy at this most critical time: he soughtdeliverance from death when preparing to face a brother who had determined to kill him.

    And finally, near the end of his days, while blessing his twelve sons, Yaacob spoke the

    Name ofhwhy one time:

    I have waited for Your salvation, hwhy.

    Genesis 49:18

    Through many great trials and much suffering, this patriarch learned to wait with expectant

    longing for a better day: one can only imagine Yaacobs feelings of searing grief mixed

    with unquenchable hope across those many years he had lived under the impression that

    Yoseph had long since died at the mouth of a wild beast.43

    During those years he surely

    learned to look forward to joining his Rachel and Yoseph in the City whose Architect andBuilder was hwhy.44

    The evidence given above is abundantandsubstantial: Scripture makes it quite clear the

    three patriarchsAbraham, Yitschak, and Yaacob (as well as their wives and servants)all

    knew hwhy, called upon Him by that Name, and furthermore, referred to Him by that Namewhen speaking to others: They did not use HaShem; nor did they use Adonai except on

    those few occasions where it was appropriate to address Him as the Sovereign. The

    generations of the patriarchs formed an unbroken line of men and women who honored hwhyand who called upon His most revered, Covenant Name. These servants of the Most Highhad absolutely no aversion to uttering the Name as so many in our days who perpetuatefalse

    traditions with the unsubstantiated claim His Name is too holy to pronounce. Hence, we

    assert translators should have rendered Exodus 6:3 in the form of a question, and in a manner

    which is very similar to the following:

    And I appeared to Abraham, to Yitschak, and to Yaacob,

    by El Shaddai, but by My Name hwhywas I not known to them?

    Exodus 6:3

    The implied answer to this question is a resounding Yes! because hwhy continues Histhoughts by saying to Mosheh:

    4 And I have also established Mycovenant with them, to give them the

    land of Canaan, the land of their sojourning, wherein they sojourned.

    Exodus 6:4

    Ifhwhy established His covenantwith them, then hwhy was most certainly known to thesepeople by His Covenant Name. It as just as David wrote in the psalms: the secret (of His

    Name)45

    is with those who fear Him, and He will make known to them His covenant

    The secret ofhwhyis for those who fear Him,

    and His covenant, to make known to them.

    Psalm 25:14Scripture history shows the true people ofhwhy have always known and honored His Name:

    43 Genesis 37:31-3544 Hebrews 11:9-10,1645 Job 15:8, Proverbs 3:32, Micah 6:9. When one knows the secret of the Name, then he or she becomes a true prophet

    endowed with His Spirit (Matthew 6:9, Matthew 5:11-12, Numbers 11:27-29), and many other great secrets of His

    Kingdom are subsequently revealed as hwhyfurther expands the awesome knowledge of His Name in the hearts of Hischosen ones. Amos 3:7 > Exodus 33:12-34:29, Genesis 18:17-33, 1Kings 19:4-18, 2Samuel 7:1-29, John 5:19, 30, 36,8:28, 38, 49, 10:25, 37-38, 1Corinthians 2:14-16, plus many, many more.

    Therefore My people shall know My Name; therefore,

    they will know in that day that I am He, that says, Here am I.Isaiah 52:6

    And inExodus 6, after showing the patriarchs knew Him as hwhy, after indicating they knewHim by His Covenant Name, He continues speaking to Mosheh in the vein which showsHis

    Name is inexorably tied toHis covenant:

    5 And moreover I have heard the groaning of the children of Yisrael, whom the Egyptians

    keep in bondage; and I have remembered Mycovenant. 6 Therefore, say to the children of

    Yisrael, I am hwhy, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I

    will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm, and with

    great judgments: 7 and I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you an Elohim; and

    you will know that I am hwhyyour Elohim, who brings you out from under the burdens of the

    Egyptians. 8 And I will bring you in to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, toYitschak, and to Yaacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage: I am hwhy. Exodus 6:4-8

    The point we are making is this: hwhy did not reveal Himself to the patriarchs as ElShaddai in lieu of revealing His Name, nor was the title El Shaddai either contrary orsuperior to the Name ofhwhy. The title El Shaddai was a special revelation of the One whoprovides protection and retribution for His anointed: He rebuked kings for their sakes.

    power to bless His anointedto

    defend, protect, and provide48while punishing the wicked and executing His vengeance

    upon them.49

    When hwhy revealed Himself to Abram as El Shaddai it was with a warningto walk before Him perfectly:

    And it came to be, Abram was a son of the ninetieth year and nine years,

    andhwhyappeared to Abram, and He said to him, I am El Shaddai;walk before me, and be perfect. Genesis 17:1

    In Hebrew,El Shaddaibreaks down like this:

    We believe the title El Shaddai (yds la) is a play on words in the Hebrew language, andas such, the latter of its two words (yds) can have two meanings:1. Having the Hebrew word shadad (ddv) as its root word, Shaddai is related todestruction. The word shadad connotes a completely devastating force. This would

    connect El Shaddai to the great wrath ofhwhy which is, at times, associated with said title.In another study, we will see the Day ofhwhy associatesjudgments of great destruction withthe title El Shaddai.2. But if, in the word yds, theshin (v) is taken to be the Hebrew prefix meaning who, itthen precedes the word dai (yd , a Hebrew word meaning enough, or sufficient, orsufficiency) and Shaddai would literally mean: Who is Sufficient.

    Thus, El Shaddai is a special revelation of the ever watchful eye ofhwhy meeting all ourneeds, of being our Sufficiency as He sees all our struggles in His service, while at the same

    timethe titles root being the Hebrew word for overwhelming destructionit speaks of His

    eventual (if not immediate) wrath upon the wicked (and disobedient): He will most certainly

    avenge His servants. Hence, a blessing and punishment50

    aspect of the Name ofhwhy, isrevealed in the title El Shaddai, and this is seen in two Scriptures in Mishle/Proverbs:

    A refuge for the blameless, is the path ofhwhy, butdestruction awaits the workers of iniquity. Proverbs 10:29

    The integrity of the upright shall guide them:

    but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy (ddv) them.Proverbs 11:3

    Not coincidentally, when Shaul, the emissary, asks the question Who is sufficient for these

    things? he has just indicated the contrast between thesavor unto life for the upright and thesavor unto death for the disobedient, much like the two texts just seen above fromProverbs:

    14 Now thanks be to Elohim, who always causes us to triumph in the Messiah, and makesmanifest the savor of His knowledge by us in every place. 15 For we are to Elohim a sweet

    savor of the Messiah in those that are saved, and in those that perish: 16 to the one we are

    thesavor of death unto death; and to the otherthe savor of life unto life. Andwho issufficient for these things? 2Corinthians 2:14-16

    Amazingly, we have further evidence from the Hebrew misparim that the title El

    Shaddai was not in any way contrary orsuperiorto the Name ofhwhy. Rather, the title ElShaddai revealed certain aspects of the Covenant Name. The title El Shaddai was simply

    a great revelation of His Name and character: We cannot truly know His blessing, protection,

    and provision as El Shaddai unless wefirst know Him as hwhy. And the truth of what weare saying is immediately seen in the misparim of the title El Shaddai:

    345 = (10) y (4) d + (300) S + (30) l + (1) a = yds la = El ShaddaiBut while the misparim of El Shaddai is 345, recall that the misparim of haShem

    (meaning the Name) is also 345:

    345 = (40) M + (300) S + (5) h = MSh = haShem = the NameYet, we have earlier seen the misparim of Mosheh is also 345, and this prophet who led

    forth Yisrael from Mitsrayim/Egypt also knew hwhy as El Shaddai. Consequently, we aregiven many accounts of theprovisions which El Shaddai made for Yisrael in the wilderness

    as well as the vengeance which He so often displayed through the prophet Mosheh.52 As hewielded the rod of Elohims authority,

    were made manifest. And the prophet Mosheh most likely wrotePsalm 91,55

    which opens

    with this line:

    He that dwells in the secret place of the Most High,

    shall abide under the shadow of Shaddai.

    Psalm 91:1

    One cannot have the protection and provision of El Shaddai apart from knowing and honoringhaShem, the Name ofhwhy.56 Those who abide under the shadow of Shaddai (Psalm 91:1)have been set on high because they have set their love upon Him through knowing and

    loving His Name:57

    Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him;

    I will set him on high, because he has known My Name.

    Psalm 91:14

    Having the same misparim value (of 345), El Shaddai and haShem are not opposing

    concepts: They are, rather, confederate in revealing some of the infinite greatness of the

    Name of the Most High to our finite and limited minds. So we say once againadding all

    the things seen in this study to the numerous others we have now set forth in honor of theinfinite, unfathomable greatness of His Namemisparim is truly the Most Highs inspired

    commentarynumerically woven into His inspired Word! And there were many ways in

    which hwhy used the prophet Mosheh (345) to proclaim His Name: Through His judgment upon Pharaoh, Egypt, and the false gods of that nation. Exodus 9:13-

    16, 12:12

    Through His parting of the sea and destroying the Egyptian army. Exodus 15:1-21, Isaiah

    63:11-14

    Through the giving of the Ten Words and the written Torah. Exodus 19:16-20:20

    Through directly proclaiming His Name to Mosheh on Mount Sinai. Exodus 33:12-34:35 Through judgments of vengeance upon the disobedient of Yisrael as well as upon the

    avowed enemies ofhwhy. Numbers 16:1-35, 41-50, Deuteronomy 1:3-4, 31:1-7, 32:34-43Yet if Mosheh proclaimed the Name ofhwhy, then his Successor, eSwhy the Messiah, did sowith even more magnificence! (And He continues doing so even today!) We not only have a

    prophecy that the Savior was to come forth from the tribe of Yahudah (Judah), we also have

    amazing prophetic evidence the Messiah would surely be the Prophet like Mosheh: eSwhywould/did have a ministry whichgreatly exaltedthe Name of the Most High.

    Shiloh: Moshehs Successorthe Messiahthe King of YisraelWhen blessing his sons before his death, Yaacob also uttered at least two prophecies

    concerning the coming of the Messiah. One of those prophecies (regarding the Stone ofYisrael)

    prophecy involves the tribe of Yahudah,60

    the tribe from which the Messiah was predicted to

    come forth:61

    The scepter shall not depart from Yahudah, nor a lawgiver

    from between his feet, untilShiloh come; and to Him

    shall be the obedience of the peoples.

    Genesis 49:10

    When speaking of Moshehs Successor, hwhyindicated that His words would be put in theMessiahs mouth and that all who disobeyedthis Prophet would be punished for not

    hearkening to His teachings:

    15 hwhyyour Elohim will raise up to you a Prophet like me: from your midst, of your

    brothers; to Him you shall hearken. 16 According to all that you desired ofhwhyyour Elohim

    in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice ofhwhymy

    Elohim, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I may not die. 17 Andhwhysaid to

    me, They have well spoken of that which they have spoken. 18 I will raise up to them a

    prophet from among their brothers, like you, and will put My words in His mouth; and He

    will speak to them all that I shall command Him. 19 And it will come to pass, that whoever

    will not hearken to My words which He shall speak in My Name, I will require it of him.Deuteronomy 18:15-19

    This Prophet was, and is, eswhythe Messiah. We notice from this prophecy that hwhyrequires all to hearken to the Torah/Teaching of the Messiah: He requires all to obey His

    Anointed One. This is in keeping with the prophecy of Yaacob which also mentions the

    obedience of the peoples.62

    But we are presently interested in the term Shiloh. For not

    only does this title point to Moshehs Prophesied Successor, the Messiah of Yisrael, but the

    misparim of Shiloh also confirms that He was to be the fulfillment of Yaacobs prophecy!

    Shiloh would be the Messiah, the Prophet like Mosheh; and that He would be Moshehs

    Successor is abundantly clear from themisparim

    of this Hebrew word:

    345 = (5) h + (30) l (10) y + (300) S = hlys = ShilohSo the misparim of Shiloh equals 345, the very same number as the misparim of Mosheh!

    345 = (5) h + (300) S + (40) m = hSm = Mosheh = MosesAnd once more, 345 is the misparim of haShem (meaning the Name):

    345 = (40) M + (300) S + (5) h = MSh = haShem = the Name

    In the context ofhonoring the Fathers Name, eswhy indicated who among His followerswould be honored as the greatest in the Kingdom:

    17 Think not that I came to destroy the Torah or the Prophets: I came not to destroy, but to

    fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in

    no wise pass away from the Torah, till all things be accomplished. 19 Whosoever, therefore,

    shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in

    the Kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great inthe Kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that except your righteousness shall exceed that

    of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in no case enter into the Kingdom of heaven.Matthew 5:17-20

    Many believers today like to quote a very special Scripture from the prophet Samuel; yet, if

    they could understand these words in their contextand if they would compare this text to

    the above words of our Messiahthey would readily see the following applies to those who

    honor the Name ofhwhy by keeping the commandments of His Torah:For those that honor Me, I will honor,

    and they that despise Me will be lightly esteemed.1Samuel 2:30

    To us, this sounds very much like the text of Matthew 5:19 those who keep and teach the

    commandments will be calledgreat in the Kingdom (they will be honored by hwhy), whilethose who break and negate even the leastcommandment will be call least in the Kingdom

    (they will be lightly esteemed). All that eswhy taught was directly from hwhy, and He fullyupheld the immutable Torah:

    If you keep my commandments, you will abide in My love;

    even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

    John 15:10Without question, the Messiah will be the greatest in the Kingdom! But who will be the

    second greatest or the third or the fourth, or the fifth, or the (you fill in the number)?

    Certainly, those who will be the greatest will also be those who walked as the Messiah,

    keeping the immutable commandments of the Torah.65

    greatest do we concede that a person may be great even after having lived a life in

    defiance of the Torah? ? Simply put, there is no such hypothetical number. Can a life of

    obedience really be a pick-and-choose, do-as-you-like proposition? The Fathers

    commandments were His Sons commandments, and they will be our commandments if we

    are sons and daughters ofhwhy, the Father. One cannot separate honoring/dishonoring theName ofhwhy from ones standing in relation to the Torah. As our Example in keeping the

    Torah, eswhy broughtgreat honor to the Name ofhwhy. How can anyone reason that abeliever who has a heart to seek66 and obey67 in a manner which emulates the Messiah willdishonor that Name by such obedience? Yet this is the illogical deduction which many

    accept in our days. If studied, it will become clear that eswhy, through the power of theSpirit, fulfilled (and continues to fulfill!) all ten aspects of the Name ofhwhy68as revealed inthe Tanak (the Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings); our increased understanding of these

    things will help us to number among those of whom David wrote in theNinth Tehillah:

    And they that know Your Name will put their trust in You:

    for You, hwhy, have not forsaken those who seek You.

    And we see this to be true from the Scriptures cited above: The Messiah continues to fulfill

    each of the ten, revealed facets of the Name. eswhydoes this through the power He wields asSovereign of All, but He also does this by revealing His power in the Body of believers. For

    example, when Shaul wrote ofhwhybeing pleased to reveal His Son in him, it also shows usone of the major ways the Spirit is fulfilling the promise to manifest the Memorial Name toall generations:

    When eswhy is revealed in/through a believer, then the Name ofhwhyis more fully revealedand magnified. As eswhy lives in the heart of the believer, the Name ofhwhycontinues to bemade manifest to other believers, to those the Spirit is calling into the Kingdom, and to thosewho are still in the world:

    Consequently, those who have followed Him fully will become a kingdom of priests. And as

    the high priest wore the miterthus placing the Name ofhwhy on his forehead80so shall itbe with those who prayed throughout their lives, Your Name be Set Apart:
