their undefeated season into the play-offs, they were finally matched against the Braves. After being down two runs in the last inning with two outs, the White Sox came back to win the game. The team went on to win the championship

The Collierville Reds 11s are a indi-rect result of the 2007/2008 CYAA White Sox recreational team. In 2007, Courtney Mitchell decided to give back to the community by coaching a 7-8 year old recreational team in Collierville. The first year in 2007 started out as a struggle. The team went 0-3 to begin the sea-son. However, the team vamped back on a 5 game winning streak, only to lose in the end of season tournament in the first round.

That fall, Courtney coached the Phillies Fall Ball team. The team was a success only losing 1 game. Later the next Spring, Courtney continued coaching by returning to the White Sox. This White Sox team took on all competitors out-scoring them by an average team by 8-10 runs. The White Sox went on to go undefeated in the regular sea-son. As the team sought to continue

over the Giants, becoming the over-all league champs. Six players of the team, one from the Braves, one from the Rockies, and a few others all made the 2009 Collierville Reds competitive baseball team.

the primary catcher for the team till the present.

Jaylon is big for his age and has an arm that has thrown out many players during each of his 3 seasons of playing competitive baseball. He has progressed year after year in the position. Jaylon has probably thrown out more runners headed to second than any other catcher in his age/division of playing. His skills at catcher is a big slowdown for teams

seeking to steal on the Reds. He is one of the better catchers who will have a great future.

Jaylon will be attending Collierville Middle in the 2011-2012 school year. He has also played basketball for the YMCA basketball league in Collierville. Jaylon loves baseball and is looking forward to playing more in the future.

Jaylon started his baseball career as a member of the 2007 & 2008 CYAA White Sox recreational base-ball team. Jaylon originally was an outfielder, and later on he played third base. In 2009, Jaylon tried out for the Collierville Reds 9s. Upon making the team, he contin-ued as an infielder. whereas the players worked on all aspects of the game: hitting, field-ing, pitching, base running, and more. Many of the kids know a lot of the kids from other teams who come to the annual camp. In addition, they meet many new

friends year after year. This was the third year that some of the Reds players attended the camp. Reds

players this year in the past years have been awarded “Camper of the Day” as well as tow different years of winning the “Home Run Derby.” This was a very good camp.

Of all the camps, the Rhodes camp is probably the most fun camp for the kids. The camp was held June 6 - 9, 2011 at Rhodes College. Coach Jeff Cleanthes held the annual camp. Attending the camp were players: Matthew Higdon, Corey Hardeman, Chris Colebrook, Kylan Mitchell, Evan Koch, and Larry Hubbard. This camp too focused on the basic fundamentals of baseball

The MUS (Memphis University School) Baseball Camp was held May 31 - June 2, 2011. Attending the camp was Kylan Mitchell, Larry Hubbard, and Chris Colebrook. The camp was a very good camp where the players worked on all aspects of hitting and fielding. Though the kids were the younger bunch of the players attending, they performed very well with good words of accom-plishments from the coaches head-ing up the camp.

This was the first year the three attended this camp. All three were very excited each day to attend. The MUS camp was a big success. The kids performed very well com-

ing out of the camp in the tournament the following week-end. One difference with the fields at this camp was the turf infield. This was the first time the Reds players had practiced and played on a turf in-field. Other than that, the camp stressed the funda-mentals of baseball skills. We would like to thank the staff at MUS for a good week of camp.

Seven Reds players attended the 2011 Collierville High School Pitcher /Catcher Camp. The camp was held June 13-16, 2011. The camp attracted many players from competitive, all-star, and recrea-tional programs, being one of the higher attended camps put on by the high school in years.

Attending the pitcher/catcher camp were Chris Colebrook, Larry Hub-bard, Evan Koch, Matthew Higdon, Jaylon Jones, and Corey Hardeman. Some of the attending Reds players will be students at the high school in the next two to three years. They were very excited every day to at-tend the camp, especially with so

many of their friends there from their schools and other sports programs in Collierville. Coach Hopkins noted that the Reds players all participated very good. This was the third camp where their tal-ents were recog-nized by the camp promoters. At this camp, they worked on a lot of fundamental pitching skills, a lot of hitting, and catcher skills. The

kids really enjoyed the instruction received and will add it to their an-nual summer camp schedule.

was instructed by various Redbird players. The camp attracted a lot of kids with a very large attendance. Kids were broken up by age range and sepa-

The camp also focused on the basic fundamentals of baseball (fielding ground balls, fielding pop-ups, backing up players, base running, and proper throwing techniques. The play-ers left the Redbirds and vis-ited the FedEx Forum, meeting Grizzly player, Xavier Henry.

The Memphis Redbirds and Chevy put on a free camp for players here in the mid-south. Attending players were from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas, ranging from ages of 6-15. Reds players attending the one-day camp were Larry Hubbard, Evan Koch, Kylan Mitchell, and R.J. Dell. In addition, Josh Koch, the Reds Director of Bat Opera-tions, attended the camp. The camp

Ron is married (Linda) and is also head coach for the Memphis Home School team. His years in baseball, both as a player, coach, and instruc-tor would take up the whole maga-zine. Ron is an asset to the Reds.

Ron Hobar has been an integral part of the Collierville Reds 11s baseball team for over two years. Since attending the FCA Camps in 2009, the kids loved Ron. He brings to the team a “GOD-Centered” ap-proach to the game as he takes them through the mental aspects of the game. In addition to the FCA camps, Ron holds team camps with the Reds in December and January

The FCA camp is widely attended by many Reds players and players from many other competitive and recreational teams in and around Shelby County. The camp is held at GameDay/First Tennessee Fields every summer for a week. Ron Ho-bar heads up the annual camp.

The camp is lead by Bobby Kilpatrick (Former University of Memphis Head Coach - All-Time Winningest Coach 1972-1992 / AA Chicago White Sox 1961-1964), Duffy Guyton (AA St. Louis Cardi-nals / Dallas Baptist Graduate & Assistant Coach / Right-Handed Pitcher), Tyler Whitney (Drafted by Seattle Mariners 2010 / 2010 MSU
