Hi all

The season is off and running with a fair bit of rain

interruptions during the first month of the season

effecting all of our teams. All sides have

experienced wins with C grade the only team not to

experience a loss for the current season.

Last weekend’s completion of rounds saw a number

of our teams suffering another loss for the season.

Although losses are generally disappointing results, it

was encouraging to hear during the captain’s

reports back at the club rooms how well a number

of our younger members performed in their

respective sides.

The current cricket season we see us playing each

Saturday up until Saturday 22nd December. In the

New Year we will be resuming on Saturday 5th

January 2013. Please be aware that ALL of our teams

are scheduled to be playing on Saturday 26th

January 2013. Clubs/teams can attempt to organise

to play their 2 day matches on Saturday/Sunday

19th/20th Januaryonly if their opponents are

agreeable to the change. Could ALL players let us

know sooner than later as to whether they will be

available to play on Australia Day?

Please be aware that club membership fees are

PAST due. If anybody is having financial troubles

paying their membership fees please do not hesitate

to speak with either our treasurer Shane Richardson

or our registrar Mark Grimes. We want players to be

available to play matches when required and NOT

be unavailable due to being unfinancial.

15th December will also see the President notching

up another half century (this time without bat or

ball). Without wanting to encourage the

consumption of alcohol I will be putting on a few

Coopers 1962 Vintage Pilseners back at the

clubrooms following our matches on this day.

Hopefully the shout will be enjoyed by plenty of

winners.

I am aware that our Duck awards have been the

source of a few raised eyebrows within the club.

We intend to balance these awards with greater

recognition of solid individual performances within

games as well as a little more emphasis on man of

the match performances. The Duck awards were

never meant to be viewed as a “celebratory”

award but more of a “Hall of Shame” award.

Please be assured the club does not want to

promote mediocre performances on the field of

play. Nevertheless there is also room for humour

within the club as well. More than happy for us to

play hard on the field, win more games than we

lose, and have plenty of good times off the field

once the playing has finished and thirsts need to

be quenched. Let’s make sure we get back to

winning games ASAP.

A Grade

One Day – 6th (1 win, 1 loss)

Two Day – 7th (2 wins, 3 losses)

Handy start to the season for our top team.

Considering the injuries and player unavailability

they have had to contend with it bodes well for

the rest of the season.

C Grade

One Day – 5th (0 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss)

Two Day – 3rd (3 wins, 1 draw, 1 loss)

A couple of washout draws have hindered our

C graders. However they are 3rd on the ladder in

the two day format after 5 games – well done

boys.

D Grade

One Day – 5th(1 win, 1 loss)

Two Day – 6th (2 win, 1 draw, 2 losses)

An encouraging start to the season with this

team being built on the foundation of youth. Will

help build experience in this club moving

forward.

F Grade

One Day – 2nd (1 win, 1 draw)

Two Day – 4th (1 W2, 1 W1,1 draw, 1 L1, 1 L2)

These guys are battling hard but are still holding

onto 4th which is a credit to them. Will continue

to build on their solid start to the season.

H Grade

One Day –6th (1 win, 1 loss)

Two Day – 6th (2 wins, 3 losses)

Solid start to the season with big things

expected from these boys.

One Day League

5th – 4 wins, 2 losses and 1 bye

Our One Day boys are looking the goods this

season narrowly losing two games and destroying

the other team in their 4 wins. Brett Farrell is on fire

this season with 365 runs after 6 innings. Ash Sheikh

bowling beautifully with 11 wickets @ 5.00.

The club continues to go from strength to strength

with the days of playing short over. Two weeks

ago we had 5 new guys to training on Thursday

and they all signed up at the end of the session.

You need to ensure you are getting down to

training to ensure your selection each week. Now

that most members are financial, preference at

selection will be given to those that attend

training. Remember if you cant attend please let

Lincoln know on 0416 690 445 and he will pass

through your apologies to the Chairman of

Selectors.

Mexican night was a great success with plenty of

good food on offer along with some delicious

cocktails assembled by Gumby. Put this together

with the good company and a fantastic night

was had by all.

Grand final weekend the club ran a function for

those lost souls that didn’t have anywhere else to

go. It was well attended with some decent

amounts of grog consumed and some beautiful

roast pork and beef rolls on offer.

THE REDS REVIEW

Hello Avid Readers,

It's my time again to have a look at some of the

more colourful characters that are playing at this

fine new club.

My subject this month is a man that I'm 100%

sure will try and kill me in the nets if he reads

this but I'm pretty sure he doesn't know how to

use a computer so it shouldn’t be a problem

It's the big man himself Greg Mucci.

Some say he started playing in the dark ages

with rocks as cricket balls and Woolly Mammoth

tusks as bats (that would explain the trying to kill

every batsmen he has every bowled at in a

game to this day) although his love affair with

murdering batsmen has only been seen around

these parts since 2004/05 season when he

decided he would play cricket with some of the

boys he had coached the year before.

Since then we have had many a laugh with him

and of course at him, some of his highlights

would be leaving the club rooms late Saturday

night to cross the oval and head home only to

somehow do a complete 180 degree turn

somewhere in Greenwood and then wake up on

someone's lawn in Landsdale without his shirt

on and only his cricket bag in hand. He is always

seen around the club with a can of export (drink

of the gods according to the man) and full of

advice such as “Warney you should be still

training” He firmly believes that abatsman is

someone who can't bowl!!!

Other club members are also known to keep

buying and opening beers for the great man so

he doesn’t go home as he strongly believes in

never wasting a beer to the point when one is

finished he has a private ceremony with it before

depositing it in the recycling bin!!!

When the Swan Brewery announced their

closure and that they were moving production of

his beloved Emu Export to South Australia

T H E P H A N T OMS C O LU MN

well you could have heard a pin drop in his

house. The sight of one man holding a

placard protesting outside Swan Brewery was

quite sad, Mucci really needed to take some

of his mates with him that day.

Greg turned 50 this year so his nimbleness

isn't as good as it once was though this

season he is committed to making that 100

he so deserves as his previous highest score

is 95 out in C grade a few years back. When

you see him or Gumby ask them the story of

how he got out as I wasn't there and I couldn't

do the story justice.

I literally could write an autobiography on

Greg just with the info I uncovered in my 4

week investigation so maybe I may run

another piece on the great man later on.
