<ul><li><p>The Statue of Liberty</p></li><li><p>The Statue of LibertyThe Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island at the mouth of the Hudson River.</p></li><li><p>The Statue of LibertyIn 1871 Frederic Auguste Bartholdi envisioned a statue to commemorate Americas 100 years of independence.</p><p>The statue was a gift from France to America, because the French admired Americas democracy.</p></li><li><p>Bartholdi imagined the statue in New Yorks harbor with a glowing torch to welcome voyagers.</p></li><li><p>The Statue of LibertySeven spokes in the statues crown depicted the worlds seven seas and continents.</p></li><li><p>The Statue of LibertyBecause the statue was made in France and needed to be transported to America, Bartholdi decided to make the skin of the statue out of copper, to keep the statue as light weight as possible.</p></li><li><p>The Statue of LibertyOver time, exposure to rain, humidity, and sun caused the copper to change to a green color. This is called patina. </p></li><li><p>The Statue of Liberty</p><p>Bartholdi called the statue, Liberty Enlightenting the World. The date on the tablet recognizes the date America declared independence from England.</p></li><li><p>Statue of LibertyThe inside of the statue was designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel. He is the man that designed the Eiffel Tower. The stairs were recently rebuilt for safety.</p></li></ul>
