Callbacks: as needed Rehearsals: Most likely to begin mid to late February. Final schedule will be made to accommodate cast availability as much as possible, but conflicts will be a major consideration in casting. Rehearsals will be in the greater San Jose area. Performances: April 10-May 3, 2015, at Theatre on San Pedro Square, Downtown San Jose. Tabard productions include two performances on Saturdays (3pm & 8pm) and a matinee on Sundays (2pm). There will be at least two Thursday performances (April 23 & 30, 8pm). The Show… Violet is the story of a young woman’s quest for healing amidst the image-obsessed landscape of the 1960s. Facially disfigured in a childhood accident, Violet dreams of a miraculous transformation through the power of faith. Convinced that a televangelist in Oklahoma can heal her, she hops a Greyhound bus and starts the journey of a lifetime. Along the way, Violet forms unlikely friendships with her fellow riders and particularly, with two soldiers who become central to her transformation. The score is by Jeanine Tesori, composer of Caroline, or Change, and eleven new songs for Thoroughly Modern Millie, as well as the recent New York Public Theatre hit, Fun Home. Originally produced off-Broadway, Violet is finally now receiving its Broadway premiere, and opened in April to rave reviews. Tesori's score is a wonderfully eclectic mix of styles, including country, gospel, Broadway. Available Role… Young Vi -- a principal role - Violet's "12-year-old" self in many flashbacks throughout the play. Since the person cast as Violet is blond, Young Vi should be blond, or of fair complexion, slender, able to come across between 12-14 years of age. So, this could be a high school age student who can play younger. The singing and acting are extensive and demanding. While the subject matter is mature, there is nothing inappropriate in word or action for Young Vi. We seek a serious young performer with a mezzo range (A below middle C and F2 above.) Substantial evening and weekend rehearsals in late February,

March and early April (show opens April 10). What to prepare: 32 bars of a song that shows your best range in “legit”. Please bring sheet music. Piano accompaniment provided. No tapes, CDs, lead sheets or a capella. You will be asked to do one or more cold readings. Dance audition will be included at callbacks. Non-AEA. Stipend available.
