children helped raise a million dollars to bring the Alabama to
Mobile Bay.
U.S.S. Alabama Facts The U.S.S. Alabama was commissioned in
August 16, 1942, and is 680 feet in length, with a width of about
108 ft. and 2 inches.She weighs a whopping 35,000 tons, which is
about 70 million pounds! But in battle with her crew and ammunition
on board she weighs 45,000 tons (90 million pounds)
The U.S.S. Alabamas Wartime
The Battleship shot down 22 planes.The Battleship had earned
about 9 battle stars.Her first tour of duty was protecting
lend-lease convoys of Britain and Russia. She then joined with the
third and fifth fleets for operations on a Japanese island.
The U.S.S. Drum The ship was commissioned November 1, 1941 . The
ship is about 311 ft. 8 inch.The crew for the U.S.S. Alabama was 7
officers and 65 enlisted men .She earned 12 battle stars during
World War II .She was dedicated here on July 4, 1969, and moved to
the south of the parking lot in August 2001 .
The Memorial The memorial park is dedicated to all of the
Alabama Veterans that have participated in all of the United States
conflicts.The park has over 175 acres, and also has combat
aircraft, tanks, and patrol boats.

commissioned in 1942 and saw fierce action defending freedom,
especially in the Pacific.After World War II, the cost of
maintaining the fleet became a burden and the Navy announced plans
to scrap the Alabama.
