Based in the picturesque small town of Tumbler Ridge in beautiful British Columbia, the pair have been performing as The Mechanical Botanicals since 2016. As the Folk Turnsa neW yeaR beGins (the Folk’s 44th!) with so much thanks to be given—to the founders of yore; to the players, listeners, and volunteers of now; and to all of those in between!Sadly, 2018 saw one of our founding forces pass to the great beyond but not before we gave him proper thanks for his skills and for his years of dedication. Huge thanks goes to Rick Van Krugel & Linda Rogers for organising February’s tribute concert to Dave Cahill as well as to all the folks who came from far and near to join in that amazing honouring!Truly, it takes a community to sustain a folk club and the VFMS has that in abundance. Sincere thanks also goes to people like…•Dylan Rovere for carrying on Dave’s legacy at Old

Town Strings!•Doug Baxter who comes every Sunday night to do

set-up, take-down, and restock the kitchen, who attends every business meeting and serves mightily as our VP!

• Jim & Helga Woolsey who pretty much match Doug step for step, with special thanks to Helga for doing the thankless job of treasurer!

• Rick Lester, our most faithful secretary who types minutes, herds cats (I mean chairs meetings!) and generally keeps us working in good order!

• Ron Gillmore who likewise attends every Sunday, every business meeting, and also tends to ALL our graphic needs: newsletter, website, & FB page! And a special thanks is also due Emily Jones for

assisting Ron with all that wordsmithing!!•Nancy Taylor, volunteer coordinator & host master

extraordinaire along with her core dependables including Carol Lester, Bill & Betty Gordon, Francis Tally, Ray Painchaud, Sharon Hazelwood & Alan O’Dean, Bob Streeter, and Glynne Evans!!

• Patty Castle for her taste and talent in booking 50 fabulous features a year!

• Lynn Beak who answers legal-type questions, pulls regular kitchen duty, and coordinates billets for traveling musicians. Extra thanks goes to Bob & Christina Dean for providing much of that accommodation!

•Colleen Switzer-Talson for keeping us in coffee and for posting weekly notices to the folk listserve…and to John Carver for being keeper of said list!

• Lissa Chapeskie, another business meeting stalwart and front row regular, doing her best to keep the club’s average age down!

•Our elders, like Jean Smith, Bob & Betty McInnes, Anna Hendren, and Charlie McCaffery who keep us connected to our roots!

•The many, many more who have not been named here but who regularly volunteer their time and talents to keep the club thriving. It couldn’t happen without you!!

May we all be blessed with a harmonious 2019!

With love and gratitude, Carol Aileen
