Unto the Populace of the Barony ofAneala, does Kilic and Branwengive greetings.

Having returned from the land of Rowany we can report the King and Queenhave made up and all is well in the Kingdom...except for some rumblings of warin the North.

Happy Birthday!

This month we have celebrated the 25th year as a Barony with an event week-end at Manjedal, with fighting, feasting, storytelling, A&S, archery and goodfriends.

While there we were able to Award those who have done service and A&Sfor the Barony.

Lord Pantera was admitted to the Order of the Golden Swans of Aneala,Lord Richard Farrowe and Lord Hadrian were admitted to the Order of theDemi Sun and Lord Wesley finished his levels of Service, Martial arts andArts and Sciences and was admitted to the Order of the Cygnets of Anealaas a Commander. We also admitted m'Lady Meg for A&S to the Cygnets asa Companion for her wonderful Illumination on no less that 3 scrolls that weregiven out. Huzzah! Congratulations for those achievements.

We were also honoured to give out 2 Award of Arms scrolls, one for Sir An-dre which was long in coming and one for Lady Cara.

One of the highlights of the feast was that we had a Call of Precedence,(Thank you Baron Columb). This was mainly to acknowledge those whohave given to the Barony and to highlight those who have been working hardbut not yet been acknowledged. This means we were given an opportunity tosee who we should recommend. Since then we have received some 5 recom-mendations and so we look forward to acknowledging those at future events.

We would like to further say thanks, with gratitude, to all those who helpedand assisted Duenna Catalina for the event. To Mistress Rhianwen and heralways stalwart kitchen crew, to Lady Petronella and Lady Illara and SirNathan for their breakfast and other meal assistance. To the kitchen handswho just made things happen. To the Hall Steward Baron Lachlan and hisassistants, every time we came in it was different.

Page 5: The Vine - Society for Creative Anachronismaneala.lochac.sca.org/assets/vine/19-1.pdf · the tournament pavilion, we have other projects in mind like hall banners to decorate and

To our Marshals, Heralds, List keepers, Constable, Ladies in Waiting,Champions and Guardsmen including The Queen's Guardsman Lord Ha-drian and the Judges for the A&S competition and for the A&S classes. Seemswe are thanking everyone who was there! Thank you for the College memberswho helped set up and take down and clean up of the site, you were alwaysthere doing.

Finally we would like to thank those who did give presentations to us and theBarony, House Bastion, the Shires of Dragon's Bay and Bosenburg, Thankyou for your very generous gifts. Huzzah.

Upcoming events, we have the Premier Fighting event of the BaronessesFighter Auction with the fighter's picking birds as their 'nom d'plume', sponsorsare asked to bid for their favourite bird. This auction raises money for the Bar-ony, money was spent in previous years on the list and constable tables andthe tournament pavilion, we have other projects in mind like hall banners todecorate and improve the ambience of our feasts. If you have any ideas, please suggest them to us.

Following the BFA is the canton of Abertridwr's Pencampwr, a really full week-end of fighting, feasting, A&S classes and competitions, archery on and off thefield. At this Pencampwr we have to deal with the Pirates and Brigands ofEdmund One Eyed. this will be followed at the end of June with an IKACand feast hosted by our incipient Canton of Vallon d'Or. This is a reallyworthwhile feast with great hospitality and generous members of Vallon d'Or.Later at the end of July we have Mid Winter 28th-29th where we will be re-newing our vows, so keep that date free! Some interstate visitors have alreadybooked!

Apart from these events we have practices and classes when not at an event. We have newer members who we need to support and inspire. And above allelse we ask that you have safe fun.

Be well.

Yours in Service

Kilic and BranwenBaron and Baroness of Aneala

Abertridwr Castle obstacle shoot

Date: May 6thVenue: Wandi Community Oval, DeHaer Rd WandiTime: Setup from 12pm, shoot starts 1.30pm, close 5pmCost: Members $5, Day Members $7, U16 Half price, Under 6 free

Calling all Archers of the Realm,Whether you are just beginning Archery or have been at it for years [andno matter your age] this day will see a challenge to test all the diverseskills an Archer may possess, so come and have fun shooting through, to,around and over a series of obstacles, targets and plague rats at varyingdistances.

The obstacles represent a castle and its surrounds under siege by a groupof determined archers and range in distance from a long range clout [fromgoal post to goal post] to short range [5 yards] and yet each will require adifferent level of skill and/or luck. And what of those plague rats you may wonder, well having recentlycleaned out the Abertridwr storeroom, the Canton once again ousted apack of pesky rats…

We summoned the Piper and the rats were lured from there hiding andbrought forth onto the Village Green of the Pencampwr grounds andthough now visible, they are scattered amongst the obstacles. Yet be waryof these rats as only some contain the deadly plague that we must destroyin order to protect Abertridwr and the surrounding lands. You are permitted 6 arrows at each obstacle, for every arrow that hits youare awarded 1 point. On some obstacles you will find plague rats andthese are worth 5 points but be aware some are not plagued and carry nopoints so choose with care between the obstacle target and the rats.[Please note: those wishing to become Saethydd [archery champion], youwill need a minimum of 2 plague rats]

There will also be an themed A&S competition: any item required by anArcher [ie quiver, armguard, bow, armor etc] must have accompanyingdocumentation, works in progress accepted. Judging Forms will be avail-able on the day.

Due to time constraints and lack of weekends left before Pencampwr thisshoot will encompass all 3 pre shoots of the Saethydd competition andmust be completed in order to take part.
