THEATRE COMPANY BLAH BLAH BLAH CPD COACHING MODEL The Blahs’ drama CPD for all our teachers has had a phenomenal impact on standards in writing by expanding children’s imagination, experiences of exciting settings, empathy with characters and self-confidence. It has extended their ability to listen attentively, speak with a far wider vocabulary and think deeper. When writing they draw on their adventures, the characters they have met and settings they have explored through a huge range of drama techniques. All our teachers say that this work has pushed them outside their comfort zone, which has helped them experience massive learning gains so they continue to use the techniques year after year. ENRICHING CURRICULUM AND ENABLING A HANDS ON EXPERIENCE OF INNOVATIVE TEACHING METHODS

Drawing on over 25 years experience Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah’s CPD Coaching Model offers schools the chance to set their own agenda and develop and put into practice strategies that have been proven to have an impact on the learning of both teachers and pupils alike. Using a story based approach and working through teacher-in-role and a range of other interactive, educational drama techniques, the model offers teachers the opportunity to:

Set their own bespoke learning outcomes for the project.

Be guided in selecting a ‘story for learning’.

Co-plan over a two hour ‘twilight’ session with an experienced practitioner.

Test new techniques and develop existing practice over two, hour long lessons with pupils over a one/two week period.

Team-teach alongside the practitioner.

See techniques modeled and receive support and guidance.

Partner with another teacher through the process, either from within the same school or from a school where links already exist or could be developed e.g. across Trusts, networks or Academy chains.

Spend time reflecting on both their own and children’s learning throughout the project and during a ‘twilight’ evaluation session.

Be supported in sharing findings and techniques more widely.

You scaffolded us well, you

have taken stuff we already know

and shown us how to do it in a purposeful way.

INSPIRING CHILDREN’S LEARNING

CPD Coaching is a flexible model that is rooted in practice and brings together creative approaches to teaching and learning with the needs of the classroom. It also allows teachers to develop an imaginative response to the increased focus placed on raising attainment in schools. Drama is explored as a means of framing, motivating and inspiring children’s learning, providing a context and purpose for a variety of curriculum linked activities.

Previous participants have used the Coaching Model in different ways, including developing drama sessions to support outcomes linked to the English curriculum:

Improving the quality and depth of children’s writing

Providing a context for writing within a specific genre

Developing children’s oracy, imagination and questioning skills

Exploring narrative sequencing and progression

Taking on roles and developing characters

The model can equally be used to link into and stimulate learning across subject areas and can integrate the use of established teaching tools such as the interactive whiteboard.

It makes them excited about

writing.

Theatre Company Blah Blah Blah …are based in Leeds and we have been making theatre for young people in schools since 1985. Our way of working using participation has developed in collaboration with teachers, pupils and drama specialists in to a ‘hands on’ learning experience which explores great stories rather than just telling them.

The company also offers a range of other exciting projects and performances for both primary and secondary schools that use dynamic participatory drama and theatre to connect to the curriculum.

I would just like to say that the company lived

up to every expectation
