Theme Notes Toys and Games Young children gain many positive benefits from playing with toys and games. The obvious one is enjoyment and entertainment as toys and games provide hours of fun. Fine motor skills, social skills and cognitive skills are all developed as children manipulate, share and solve problems while playing with their toys and games. Always remember to make sure that toys are age appropriate and safe. Decorate a box for your pencils, jewellery, hair ribbons, blocks or toy cards. Hide some shells and large pebbles in a sand tray by burying them in the sand. Ask a friend to find all the things you have hidden. This will be where you put your finger and the mouse's body. Add a wool tail. Draw on some eyes, ears and some whiskers. Make a mouse hole with your other hand to hide your finger puppet mouse in. Stretching: Can you stretch up tall like a giraffe? Can you stretch your arms, legs and back like a stretching cat? Can you stretch your body along the ground like a caterpillar? Bend and stretch! The idea of the game is to get across the river without being caught by the person who is the crocodile. The crocodile gets to decide who gets to cross the river by choosing a colour. If the person trying to cross is wearing that particular colour, he/she may cross freely. If you are not wearing that particular colour, you have to try and run across without getting caught by the crocodile. Each time before crossing, the player's call, "Crocodile, crocodile can I cross your golden river?" then the crocodile replies, "Not unless you are wearing the colour ___________. Bath Toys: Collect some toys that you can play with in the bath. Keep them in a plastic basket so the water can drain out of them when you are finished playing with them. These may be special bath toys or home-made bath toys like squeezy, spuirty bottles, plastic cups, sponges.
