Summer brings a new look to TRS...

Particpants, Parents & Care-providers, TRS is making a change - programs will now be offered based upon interest category and not by disability. Programs will now be broken down into the following categories: Cultural Arts- Arts, crafts, pottery, ceramics, painting, music, and dance classes Life Skills- Technology, cooking, home improvement, and social classes Wellness & Fitness- Yoga, Pilates, group exercise, martial arts, aquatics, and health classes Outdoors & Travel- Hiking, climbing, biking, day, and overnight trips So...what does this mean for you? Regardless of your disability you can choose an activity based on your interest and skill level. Please read program descriptions carefully to be sure that the program is something you are interested in and is appropriate for your skill level. TRIPs programs will remain unchanged. Only participants who are current Mountain House members, or former Mountain House members who are still clients of Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare with a diagnosis of a psychiatric disability, are eligible for these programs. We appreciate your patience as we make this change, and hope that you’re as excited as we are about our summer program line up! If you have any questions, or need help navigating the new layout, please do not hesitate to call. ~TRS Staff

We have good news! TRS now has a Google Calendar located on the TRS home webpage. Ongoing programs like Mingle, Wednesday Adventurers, Leisure Seekers and Movie Clubs will have their weekly activity information listed in case you lose the route! Thank you!

Terri Johnson started with TRS back in January as an intern from Radford University, and was a great addition to programs throughout the Winter and Spring semesters. Terri worked at Mingle on Tuesdays, Fitness Club, The 26th Annual Valentine’s Dinner Dance, the Lock-In and Ladies Night In, just to name a few. Upon completing her internship with TRS in April, Terri has decided to stay on with TRS as a Support Staff for a time, so look for her at upcoming Summer programs.

Thanks Terri for your hard work these past few months!

Guidelines for Registration

Transportation Participants are asked to provide their own transportation, as County provided transportation is available on a very limited basis. Space will be available until fi lled. It is TRS policy to only wait fi ve (5) minutes for a participant after their scheduled pickup time. After that, the van will continue on the route. If a participant is a “no show” without prior notifi cation three (3) times within a semester, the participant will be dropped from transportation for the remainder of that semester. When meeting at pick-up points, if a participant’s transportation is more than fi ve (5) minutes late for pick up/drop off time, three (3) times within a semester, the participant will be dropped from transportation for the remainder of that semester. If a participant is removed from transportation, they will receive a refund for those fees. Based upon registrations, activities may be moved to an alternate location to help facilitate transportation needs.

High Demand Classes & Waitlists Sometimes programs may fi ll before the registration session concludes. TRS considers these “High Demand” classes. “High Demand” classes are marked with a next to the title. If a class fi lls, the participant will automatically be placed on a waitlist. Participants will be contacted if placed on the waitlist and a space becomes available.

Registration Registration is taken via telephone, email, postal mail to the TRS main offi ce, or in person at the Brambleton Center. Mail-in and email registrations will be processed the morning of registration in the order in which they were received, and may be submitted prior to registration date. Registration begins:

8:00 am, Monday, June 6, 2011

Refunds & Credits In the event that Roanoke County cancels a class, participants will automatically receive a full credit to their account. Credits will be carried on the account and can be used toward future courses and activities. If a participant would like a refund, notify TRS and a refund will be processed within three weeks if the amount is over $25. Credit amounts under $25 will remain on accounts for future use. If a participant must withdraw from a course, they must be withdrawn before the class begins. A participant will receive a refund if another TRS participant can fi ll your spot. Credits for trips or special events (such as theatre productions where tickets are purchased in advance) cannot be given after tickets are purchased unless your place can be fi lled.

Guidelines for Inclusion: For participation in general recreation classes, with assistance from TRS staff, a participant must:• Meet registration requirements of the selected class, ie. age, residency, prerequisites.• Be able to adhere to the rules of conduct.• Be able to follow simple directions & be able to communicate your basic needs.• Have the ability to tolerate & function in appropriate class sizes based on type of program.• Be able to participate in the selected activity for the majority of the scheduled time.
