Catholic Schools Week Knights of Columbus breakfast
10 am Mass in the School with a delicious breakfast afterward, served by the Knights of Columbus. All proceeds from the meal go toward the School. Join us and help support our very own Catholic School
—St. Rose of Lima!
Almighty Father, You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people. As Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the im-
portance of education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.
Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who have dedicat-ed their lives in service to our Catholic schools.
Thank you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools today. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness to the importance
of Catholic education in their daily lives. Thank you for the students who work hard to further their education. Bless St. Rose of Lima and the many people who advance our mission.
May our building be a home for those who seek to grow in faith, knowledge, and service of others.
May our community always support one another and exhibit hospitality to new-comers.
Fill our minds with knowledge and wisdom. May our understanding of the world help us to grow in appreciation for it.
Fill our hearts with gladness. May we always turn to you in times of need.
Fill our hands with the tools we need to serve others. May we show them your unceasing love through our actions.
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, pray for us. St. John Neumann, pray for us. St. Rose of Lima, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
SEEKING THE LIGHT
In today’s readings we find ourselves being drawn more deeply into relationship with Jesus. We are getting to know more about him as we see how he struggles with the news of his cousin John’s arrest. His first response is to withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to Capernaum. There he is per-haps both consoled and challenged by the words of Isaiah that Matthew quotes: “the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, / on those dwelling in a land overshad-owed by death / light has arisen” (Matthew 4:16). Jesus contemplates his cousin’s death, perhaps his own death, and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
