This month at Russell! (July 2013)

Brown Cow At one of the camps I attended as a child we called it “brown cow.” Every night, as a close t o the day’s activities, everyone would gather around a large campre, sing silly songs, tell stories, and drink chocolate milk (hence, the name). I don’t remember many other d etails about camp, but I remember brown cow every night. It was one of the highlights of the day, a way to wrap up and tie a bow aro und the adventures and exciting childhood memories of summer camp. It has been a great summer of campre stories so far here at Russell Memorial. I h ave enjoyed the relaxed nature of our traditional service. It has been a joy to dive into the epic stories of scripture and their implications for our lives today. Together, these stories are the story of God, and by the grace of G od through Jesus they are also our story. I look forward to cont inuing our “Campre Stories” teaching series through the summer. These stories teach us who God is, and who we are as the people of God. Join us each week in worship to learn more. We’ll provide the songs and the stories. You bring the chocolate milk! Grace & peace, Vol. 9, No. 7 July 1, 2013 Kingdom Rock VBS Join us for Kingdom Rock VBS: Where Kids Stand Strong for God, Sunday, July 7 – Thursday, July 11, 2013, 5:15 -8:30 each evening. It’s not too late to register to attend or volunteer. Just visit the church website for the link. VBS is open to kids aged 3 (potty trained) through 6 th grade. New this year: Dr. Watso n will be leading a Bible study for adults during VBS! Adults are invited to bring their own meal, joining the kids in the Deen Building for dinner at 5:15, followed by opening worship. We’ll then have a s tudy based on each daily theme from Kingdom Rock VBS, joining the kids again for closing worship each night.
