Thank you for taking the time to review my book portfolio. Most of these titles are exhibition and collection catalogues published for the Cleveland Museum of Art. Also illustrated here are a selection of history books, a cookbook, and architectural guidelines for a historic district.

In general, art history and museum authors follow many traditions when presenting works of art that go far beyond a simple caption. Most of the authors are quite concerned with their audience of colleagues and scholars, and therefore provide comparative illustrations and copious footnotes. Collection and exhibition catalogues will give complete ownership histories on the work art (provenance), and exhaustively list all prior appearances in exhibitions and literature. The more celebrated works have been widely published and exhibited many times and therefore the listings of this information can be quite long. Part of the challenge of designing for the scholarly audience of art history is those grand works of art and not letting them get swallowed whole by their own achievements. Conversely, the least known works may only have one opportunity to shine—a particular exhibition may put the spotlight on them—and therefore the scholar always sees that every possible bit of information on the object gets published.

I am interested in many types of books, it just so happens that art history is what a large museum tends to publish. I believe these samples demonstrate my ability to manage complex projects with all sorts of intricacies. I look forward to speaking with you on the opportunities that may fit my style and ability.

Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum: The Cleveland Museum of Art Fascicule 2 Jenifer Neils with Gisela Walberg. 64 pages, 105 plates, 10 illustrations; paper and cloth. 2000

Used by classical scholars, a CVA is a portfolio of objects from the museum’s collection prepared according to a set of time-honored specifications. Contents include a book and loose plates. This format enables the researcher to have CVAs from several institutions open at once, and allows plates of similar objects to be assembled side-by-side for comparison.
