People of all ages discover the venues and artistic programme by participating in events and projects in family, school and community settings, the state-of-the-art Patrick Music and Multimedia Studio and the halls themselves.

SPOTLIGHT ON... DUKE BLUEBEARD’S CASTLE

This autumn THSH is delivering an education and community outreach project inspired by Béla Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle.

THSH works with secondary schools and community settings in our neighbourhood of Ladywood, and also in Erdington where we are currently based as part of Birmingham City Council’s Arts Champions scheme.

Each group has been working with artists using either poetry, visual art or music to explore the different worlds hidden behind the Duke’s seven doors. This work will come together in an animation created by a group of young people gaining the nationally recognised Bronze Arts Award qualification.

This ambitious project has enabled groups of all ages to work collaboratively to explore and celebrate our magnificent venues, classical music and world class performances.

Please note that there are steps up to the Stalls and Circle but a lift is available. The Stalls have flat access to all seats and generous space between rows. Patrons who need to remain in their wheelchairs during the performance can book spaces in the Stalls and the Side Circle. There are accessible toilets on all levels.

SYMPHONY HALL

All levels are accessible by lift, but there are steps within the auditorium on all levels, including the Stalls – please ask when booking if you need flat access to your seats.

Areas for patrons who need to remain in their wheelchairs during the performance are located in the Stalls (and for classical concerts are

also available in the Upper Circle). There are accessible toilets on Level 3 (Stalls), Level 5 (Upper Circle) and Level 5a (Grand Tier).

Very limited parking for disabled people driving themselves is available at the ICC, and must be pre-booked by calling the Box Office on 0121 780 4949. Requests for four or more concerts should be put in writing to THSH Box Office, Symphony Hall, Broad St, Birmingham, B1 2EA. Please allow two weeks for a reply. Performances Birmingham is one of the largest regional arts charities in the country. We invite people to discover great performances at the heart of Birmingham and participate in community arts projects at our two world-famous venues.
