Since1993twelvesuccessfulAVLmultidisciplinarysymposiawereheldonthediagnosisandtreatmentofavarietyofmalignanciesintheheadandneck.Eachaudienceconstitutedofalargenumberofhighlyinterested(inter-)nationalspecialists,activelyparticipatingindiscussions.Theforthcoming13thsymposiumisfocusedonlesscommoncancers:sinonasalandnasopharyngealcarcinoma.Bothcancertypesarecharacterizedbyanatypicalsymptomatologywithnegativeeffectsontimelydiagnosisandtreatment.Adequatediagnosisandtreatmentofthesecancersisstronglydependentonamultidisciplinaryapproachwithactiveparticipationofvariousmedicalspecialties.

Thissymposiumbringspitfallsinthediagnosticprocessofprimarysinonasalcancer,nasopharyngealcancer,surgical(reconstructive)techniquesandmultimodalitytreatmenttotheattentionoftheparticipants.Casereportdiscussionsareincludedaswellashowtoimplementtheacquiredknowledge.

Thesymposiumisofimportanceforbothresidentsandspecialistsworkinginthefieldofotolaryngology,maxillofacialsurgery,plasticsurgery,neurosurgery,skullbasesurgeryandfellowsaswellasresidentsintraining.Lecturesandpresentationsaimatteachinganddiscussionon current advances and state of the art of diagnosis and treatmentofheadandneckcancer.
