Data-based Decision-rules for defining “response to intervention”: Please list below your data-based decision-rule/s to determine youth ‘response’ for each of the six levels of intervention. Ex. Students received 80% or better on Daily Progress Report for 4 consecutive weeks. Responding to Check-in Check-out (CICO): Responding to Social/Academic Instructional Groups: Responding to Individualized CICO, Groups & Mentoring: Responding to Brief FBA/BIP: Responding to a Complex FBA/BIP: Responding to Person Centered Planning:

How We Get to a Tier 3 Intervention

Student is referred to the Behavior Data Team for Intervention.

Small Group Intervention with a baseline data collection

Data Team members meet to determine the best fit intervention based on the completed teacher referral.

Small Group Intervention & Check In Check Out

Check In Check Out

After 6 weeks of intervention, the Data Team reviews the progress made.

80% or higher success based on data collection: continue with a second round of intervention. Increase independence.

Lower than 80% success based on data collection: continue intervention but modify for success.

After 6 more weeks of intervention, the Data Team reviews the progress made.

After 6 more weeks of intervention, the Data Team reviews the progress made.

80% or higher success based on data collection: continue with a third round of intervention. Increase independence.

Graduate and become a tier 1

student.

After 2 rounds without success, consider changes in the intervention or change the type of intervention.

After 3 rounds without success, move to a tier 3 intervention.

After 6 more weeks of interventions, the Data team reviews the progress made.

Individual FBA Case Manager

• PBiS Behavior Data Team assigns a case manager.

1. Case Manager contacts General Education Teacher within a week to set up a time to meet and conduct a brief FBA.

2. Many FBA’s are available – pick the one that works best for you and your team.

3. The FBA is completed and data collection methods are created.

4. An intervention plan is created and implemented based on the function of behavior.

5. Data is collected and reviewed for 6-8 weeks.

Keys to Interventions

• Interventions must specifically target the behavior of concern and the function of the behavior found through the FBA.

• PTR models are effective. How will you prevent the behavior of concern, teach the skills necessary to extinguish or minimize the behavior, and reinforce the desired behavior.

• How will you determine if your intervention is effective?

Page 8: Tier 3 PBiS No Tears Through the Tears April 2014

Keys to Data Collection

• One basic measure is used to collect data.• Baseline data is collected prior to an

intervention plan being implemented.• Data is collected at least once per week.• A peer comparison is also collected. This

could be at baseline or throughout the intervention.

Data Review

• Throughout the Intervention period (6-8 weeks) the case manager trouble shoots and provides feedback to the General Education Teacher.

• After 6-8 weeks, the Case Manager sits down with the General Education Teacher to review the data.

• The Behavior Data Team also reviews the data at the twice monthly meeting.

• Decisions will be made to return to a tier 2 intervention or to move forward with Child Find or Re-evaluation (if on a current IEP) with the local AEA.
