Tigers Volleyball Getting Ready to Start Central Valley Conference Play Cherie Smith Sports Reporter/ Sports Editor Reedley College Women’s Volleyball is 2-3 on the season. They scrimmaged several teams before the season started. The Tigers played in two tournaments in the bay area. They also played a match in Orange County against Golden West College. Tigers Volleyball was able to start their preseason off playing other teams at the Cuesta Scrimmage and the Foothill Tournament. It allowed them to see how they match up to other teams. The team started off their pre-conference schedule at the Ram Classic (San Francisco Tournament) at San Francisco City College on Saturday, September 1. They played two matches at the tournament, losing to Butte College 3-1 (25-22, 26-28, 25-16, and 25-18) and to Feather River College 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-17). The Reedley College Volleyball coach, Shannon Jefferies said, “ We had to adjust the lineup due to an injury. Our team played very well at times and not so good at other times.” On Wednesday, September 5, the Tigers played at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. The Tigers lost 3-0. The Tigers played in the 3 rd Annual Cougar Classic at Alameda College in Alameda on Friday, September 7. They played College of Alameda winning 3-1 (23-25, 25-9, 25-18, and 25-23). Reedley also played Contra Costa College winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-7). There were five teams in the tournament and the Tigers were one-of-two teams to go 2-0. Jefferies said, “ We are challenging the players to be more consistent and disciplined in every aspect of the game. I believe the competition we play in the pre-season will prepare us for our co mpetitive conference schedule.” The Tigers start off the Central Valley Conference schedule on Wednesday, September 19 at 6:00 p.m. at College of the Sequoias. Jefferies also said, “Every team in our conference will be a challenge and fun to watch. The Tigers’ first home game is Friday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m. against Columbia College. Jefferies wanted everyone to know, “ We welcome all Reedley College fans. Put on your orange and black and come support the Tigers.”
