trees are standing up in water! Most treelots are on sunny, windy parking lots

where the trees dry out very quickly. If they get their trees from the

northwestern U.S., they arenttough enough to stand up to

our dry air. When you takeit home, the tree quickly

fades. If you haventbeen happy with your

trees in the past, try onefrom Timberline Gardens.

Every year more and more peopleare buying live, potted Christmas

trees. We offer various pines andspruce trees from three feet to eight feet high.We recommend that you keep it outdoors until

just before Christmas then bring it inside for

only a few days. Place it back outside whentemperatures are above freezing in a shel-tered spot. Plant it in the ground as soonas possible. If appropriate, dig the plantinghole in advance of the holidays before theground is frozen. Cover the hole with apiece of plywood so that no one falls in!

pine. It is longer burning and smells great!

If you are a chef, try our fruit woods, hickory or mesquite. Chefs metro-

    wide prefer our hardwoods.

    Last winter taught us

all a good lesson abouthow important winter

watering is. We hadvirtually no precipita-tion between Januaryand April and manygardeners had tremen-dous losses of youngertrees and shrubs. Almosteveryone had damage toturf grass. Mites thrive on

sunny slopes and on thesunny sides of trees andbuildings. When we haveno moisture, the mitesthrive. Rain washes themaway! Try to water at leastonce a month especiallyon younger trees andshrubs. Water turf grassonce or twice a month, especially in sunnydrought-prone areas.
