Beautify by Bob McNeesWe all enjoy the benefits derived from

living here in Sugar Creek (lovingly called ‘The Creek’) and with usually well deserved reason. We assume responsibility for our property and urge our neighbors to act likewise. And usually also get highly peeved (I cleaned that one up, literally) when a neighbor lets us down and fails to maintain their property as well as we do ours. So, let’s refresh our memories about some of the rules – yes, they are rules contained within the Covenants which we each signed when we bought into the subdivision.

Yard trash – is allowed to be placed on the curb only after 6:00 PM the evening before your trash pickup day. This means that it is not allowed to be on the curb after your yard maintenance provider does his job unless it is after 6 PM the day before your trash day. And there is no free ride for weekend days.

Trees – you are responsible for proper trimming of all trees on your property. This means that the 8 foot (that is 96 inches) minimum above all public walkways and 12 foot (144 inches) clearance above all streets. And this one is a City Ordinance which means that if you fail to perform your responsibility, The City can do the job (as theysee fit) and bill you whatever for doing your job. And they are not responsible for doing a good looking

job like you would probably do.Street Lights – you are responsible

as a citizen to notify CenterPoint of any street lights that do not function properly. This means that any street light that fails to come on every evening and stay on all through the nighttime needs to be reported for repair. It’s a Safety Issue. Your safety and mine and you know your street better than I do – so get involved and report it for repair. Go to CenterPoin-tElectric.com and click on “Report A Streetlight Outage”.

Motor Vehicles – vehicles parked illegally on our public streets are Safety Issues as well as beautify issues. Safety because our streets are normally a bit narrow and when a motor vehicle is parked that narrowness becomes exaggerated and can easily cause sideswipes. And in neighborhoods with small children, this practice will lead to our kids becoming victims of traffic accidents when they step into the path of moving vehicles. And just to go yet beyond normal parking, please envision when we park away from the curb and the situation suddenly jumps all out of control. Remember our Driver Training – a vehicle any more than 15 inches from the curb is considered in the traffic zone and is thus not legally parked. And please remember there are City Laws that limit how many days a motor vehicle

Sugar Creek Garden Club celebrated Arbor Day recently by planting a tree on Country Club Boulevard. The tree was planted with the help of the garden club members.

can be parked on a city street before it is towed away and placed in storage at your cost.

Yard signs – We are fortunate to live in an area at a time when we are growing more mature (a good sound-ing word for old). Our health care providers urge us to increase our daily activity schedules. We walk a bit more than we did last year. While walking we most normally walk alongside the street curb in the direction that we are facing the oncoming traffic. We like company while doing our exercise walk – so we take Phideaux along. And our Best Friend gets a nature call. So we feel justified in providing free fertilizer to a neighbor’s front yard. WRONG. We do not have the right to leave any deposits on anyone’s property other than our own personal property. Pick it up and take it with you. Don’t force the home owner to violate the HOA Covenants by placing Yard Signs to remind you to be a good citizen. He doesn’t like stepping in your mess any more than you do – so do the right thing – pick it up and take it with you.

If we all act responsibly as Good Neighbors, our property values will be maintained and our investment will continue to appreciate. Our next door neighbor will like living next to you and you can more thoroughly enjoy living in The Creek.

CONGRATULATIONS

Ron & Diana Bateh2315 Country Club

What happened to spring? Once again, we went straight from winter to summer and now we can look forward to long days of hot weather and high electric bills!!!

There are still gardening chores no matter how hot it gets--here are some hints on things that need to be done--

Your lawn is probably green and lush at the moment with the nice rain that we have had; however, we all know that will not continue through the summer months. When you water your lawn, do it thoroughly--don’t just “sprinkle” the top--that will encour-age the roots to come “up” to the source of water--water “deep” and less often. Remember that watering in the morning is the best. Ask your gardener to raise the setting of the mower to a higher position allowing the grass to grow just a bit taller thus protecting the soil more from the sun--not allowing it to dry out as fast. Fertilize at regular intervals. Remember that a healthy lawn will not have many weeds as they will be smothered out by the grass. The beautiful big trees that we have in the subdivision will sometimes block out so much of the sun that the grass will

die. You may want to check into a more shade--tolerant grass--remember that there is no grass that will grow without some sunlight.

After a rain, check around your yard for any containers which may have collected water--this will become a perfect breeding ground for mosqui-toes. We have enough of these without helping them multiply. Be careful to use some type of “defense” against them when working in the yard.

I hope that all of you have seen the beautiful flowerbed at the entrance to the subdivision between the guard-house and the fountain. This is the latest gift from the Sugar Creek Garden Club to All of You. I hope you enjoy it!

To our members, remember to send in your dues--to those of you new to Sugar Creek or those of you who have not been a part of garden club before, please consider becoming a member. We have a wonderful year of activities planned and we want you to be a part of it. For membership information, please contact Kathy Lukenbach at [email protected].

City of Stafford Update by Cecil Willis

Neighborhood Year Homes Sold # Foreclosures

Sugar Creek 2014 33 0 Sugar Creek 2013 87 2

MARKET WATCH - YEAR-TO-DATE

Election season is over in Stafford. Mr. A. J. Honore is the newest member of Stafford City Council and Christo-pher Caldwell is the newest member of the SMSD School Board. I would like to congratulate both of these individuals.

Summer will soon be upon us with all the normal things that take place including the start of both the City and SMSD budget process. I believe that both the City and SMSD have some challenging issues to face as we work toward adopting our budgets for the coming year.

Sales tax receipts for May are up 5.84% over prior period and up 3.87% for prior fiscal year comparison. Hotel occupancy tax are up 13.56% for latest

period compared to prior period and up 10.43% compare to he prior fiscal year comparison. Mixed beverage tax is up 33% over prior year. These sources of revenue for the City continue to be going in a positive direction. Council recently approved the 21st hotel in Stafford which should assist with future revenue.

The City Code Enforcement Depart-ment continues to do inspections that help to keep the City looking good. This past month they worked 40 such codes. The Municipal Court system processed 18 cases for ordiance violations. During the month of May the Police Depart-ment responded to 5,413 calls for service, which is down 616 over the prior year period.

Activities continue to go well at the Stafford Centre as we prepare for many exciting events along with the annual 4th of July Celebration activities. As in the past, there will be a parade, family fun activities and a dance on the night

of July 3rd. On the day of the 4th, the Fort Bend Symphony will present a free evening of patriotic music immedi-ately followed by fireworks behind the Stafford Centre. I hope you will come out and enjoy all the festivities. where will be more details in the City Newsletter.

I would like to remind you again the City has numerous committees and commissions that the residents are able to participate in. I encourage you to become involved. Please let us know.

The potential developers of the TI project have now presented a proposal. The proposal is interesting as well as intriguing but there are many questions and details that have to be worked out before a viable project can be approved. Stay tuned as we work through this process.

Please continue to communicate your concerns to us. I can be reached at [email protected] or at 281-261-3900.

master plan, designed by renowned golf course architect Jeffrey D. Blume, will mirror the renovation of the Trent course in 2013. Plans include the re-grading and re-grassing of all tees, fairways and greens complexes; bunker renovations; improved drain-age; cart path improvements and enhanced water features. The most significant change will be the addition of a lake near the green on the 18th hole. The city of Sugar Land will also be involved in the project to assist with drainage issues within the community. Clubhouse Dining & Bar Areas

The highly anticipated improve-ments of the main clubhouse dining and bar areas is underway and will take place in three phases over the course of the next several months. • The new bar will be relocated and expanded to accommodate more seating, will boast new French doors with spectacular views of the golf course along with an outdoor dining veranda overlooking Trent #1 tee box. • The original 19th Hole Bar will be

The $2.5 million renovation project taking place at Sugar Creek Country Club is well underway. This is a very exciting time in the club’s history as management continues its commit-ment to improving and revitalizing the facilities and amenities for its members and guests. This year, capital improvement projects will focus on the nine-hole Jones golf course, member dining, bar areas and swimming pool. Swimming Pool

Construction on the swimming pool began this spring and will open in June. Renovation plans include the removal of the gazebo, pool resurfac-ing, an expansion of the deck space, new landscaping, new pool furniture and the addition of pool-side dining service. The updated pool will provide a more appealing destination for our members and guests to enjoy their leisure time while at the Club. Jones Nine-Hole Course

The renovation of the Jones nine-hole course began mid-May and will re-open for play by October 1. The

Throughout construction in these areas, the entrance to the member dining and bar areas will be greatly restricted. Access will only be provided through the 19th Hole Bar with parking on the golf shop level. Shuttle service will be provided from the main clubhouse entrance to the 19th Hole Bar to best accommodate our members and guests.

This is an unprecedented time for Sugar Creek Country Club with an overall commitment to improving the facilities, amenities and overall offering for its members and guests. For more information, contact 281-494-9131.

Sugar Creek Country Club Renovations Update

NO YARD SALES, ESTATE SALES OR CONTRACTOR SIGNS ARE ALLOWED IN SUGAR CREEK.

BewareWe think of Sugar Land as a

metropolis with our Town Square, master plan communities, and people. However, in such a populated area, we still have wildlife around such as hawks, alligators and coyotes, to name a few.

The City and State’s view is that these animals are in their natural habitat so unless they present some danger, they will not relocate them. Coyotes have recently been sited on the Center Point easement. Coyotes are typically afraid of humans. However, they see small pets as a meal. Please watch your pets and do not let them run loose.
