Freedom Recap

Page 4: Tis the Season !

Freedom• Freedom from living under the Law,

performance based approval, expectations, accusations, judgments, judgmentalism, --

• Your accusations about you, other’s about you, Satan’s about you, yours about others, the ones you assume God has about you!

• Christ has set us free to live a free life. So take your stand. Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you. Galatians 5:1 MSG

Page 5: Tis the Season !

Freedom• Once you were alienated from God and were

enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. Colossians 1:21-23

More Freedom!• It is absolutely clear that God has called you to

a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. . (But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature. NIV) Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compulsions of selfishness. Galatians 5:13-14,16. MSG

Clues to where thoughts or behavior is coming from:

• The acts of the sinful nature are obvious:– sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; – idolatry and witchcraft; – hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, – selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; – drunkenness, orgies, and the like.

• I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21 NIV

Page 9: Tis the Season !

Not Freedom• It is obvious what kind of life develops out of

trying to get your own way all the time: repetitive, loveless, cheap sex; a stinking accumulation of mental and emotional garbage; frenzied and joyless grabs for happiness; trinket gods; magic-show religion; paranoid loneliness; cutthroat competition; all-consuming-yet-never-satisifed wants; a brutal temper; an impotence to love or be loved; divided homes and divided lives; small minded and lopsided pursuits; the vicious habit of depersonalizing everyone into a rival; uncontrolled and uncontrollable addictions; ugly parodies of community. Galatians 5:19-21 MSG

The Freedom of the Spirit

• So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

• Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

• Galatians 5:16-18, 25-26 NIV

Kill off the freedom robbers in yourself!

• Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Among those who belong to Christ, everything connected with getting our own way and mindlessly responding to what everyone else calls necessities is killed off for good – crucified! Galatians 5:23-24 MSG
