At Little Aisha we prepare our children to be independent and ready for their next journey to school.

WE’D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU

Dear parents and carers

1

Thank you for choosing Little Aisha Nursery.

We believe very strongly that every member of our nursery family should feel valued, cared for and respected. We have worked hard to create a safe and inclusive nursery environment and we are proud of the high standard of care that we provide;

• Our dedicated and loving practitioners work hard to create a warm and caring environment that encourages and rewards positive behaviour

• We are a demographically diverse nursery which reflects the diversity of the community we are part of and encourages the children to both embrace difference and look beyond it

• We work steadily towards school readiness by varying topics and using a variety of resources to suit all learning styles

• We prioritise the mental and emotional health of our children and encourage them to always try their hardest and expect the best for themselves as a result.

We are here to make a difference during the relatively short period of time that we are in your children’s lives and we know that working in partnership with you is critical to this. We therefore ask that you read the terms and conditions carefully and ensure that you guide and support your child’s learning throughout their time at Little Aisha. Working closely with your child’s key worker is vital to their continued academic progress, as is ensuring that your child’s attendance and punctuality are no less than 98%.

So, let’s begin this journey together – we look forward to seeing you soon (and often!) and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Welcome to the Little Aisha family!

With kind regards

The Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a statutory framework for the care and education of children aged 0-5 years. This is a very important stage as it helps yourchild get ready for school, preparing them for their futurelearning and successes. From when your child is born upuntil the age of 5, their early years’ experience should behappy, active, exciting, fun and secure and support theirdevelopment, care and learning needs.

The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their development in every area. Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning and development. We concentrate on three prime areas first. These are: Communication and Language, Physical development and Personal, Social and Emotional development.

These prime areas are most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning. As your child grows, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in four specific areas. Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the world and Expressive arts and design

These seven areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. Our dedicated team will plan activities around your child’s unique needs and interests. This is a little bit like a curriculum in primary and secondary schools, but it is suitable for very young children, and is designed to be flexible. Through the EYFS, children learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking, which takes place both indoors and outside.

To read more about the EYFS, please visit www.foundationyears.org.uk.

Continuous Monitoring and Assessment

At Little Aisha, we constantly monitor and assess our children’s development, in order to establish a strong partnership with parents, we endeavour to involve you in this process. Our EY Log system allows you to access to your children’s observations daily but also to comment and share on developments at home. Should you require help in downloading the app please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.

Equality and Equal Opportunities

Little Aisha Nursery is an inclusive nursery we celebrate the ethnic diversity of our nursery population. We endeavour to make all our families feel part of the nursery community and to demonstrate respect for the different cultures represented in our nursery.

Outdoor learning

We believe that daily outdoor play is essential for the learning and development of all the children throughout the year. In order to allow the children to access our local park, we ask you to provide wellington boots and a waterproof jacket, please label these items with your child’s name. Physical activity contributes to brain development and learning, group activities help build relationships and develop social skills, gross motor movements are essential for building the coordination and strength needed for fine motor movements. Being active helps children learn the importance of being healthy and sets up good habits for future physical activities which help with weight management and a healthy lifestyle.

Equality, Equal Opportunities & Attendance

Little Aisha Nursery is an inclusive nursery we celebrate the ethnic diversity of our nursery population. We endeavour to make all our families feel part of the nursery community and to demonstrate respect for the different cultures represented in our nursery. The promotion of equality and active practice of promoting British Values at Little Aisha is present not just in our Equality Policy but in all the schemes of work, resources and the everyday practice of the nursery.

We seek to provide excellent resources, challenging activities and teaching to all our children, whatever age, gender ethnicity, attainment or background. We aim to ensure all our children have every opportunity to learn whilst being given full and equal access to the curriculum, activities and outings. We promote this via our policies and out teaching practices while upholding and celebrating British Values.

Getting into a good habit of attending nursery helps children develop good relationships with carers and friends and a good understanding of routines, it gives them the access to a wide range of activities which supports progress at nursery and helps best prepare them for school.

You can help by only keeping your child at home if they are unwell. We ask that you contact us in the morning if your child will not be attending. If you are having difficulty attending nursery for any reason, please speak to us.

Authorised Contacts who may collect your child

If for any reason you will not be able to collect your child, you must notify the nursery. Any person other than yourselves collecting your child must be over 18 years of age, be listed in your application form as an authorised adult, have a password and carry bring identification. Please note that without these we will be unable to allow your child to leave nursery.

Food and Drink

The provision of healthy, home cooked meals and healthy snacks is part of our home from home ethos, it is very important to us that our children enjoy a nourishing meal with their friends and carers, our meal times are a very sociable time where we chat about our day and anything else the children want to tell us. We talk about what we are eating and use mealtimes as a further opportunity to promote independence in serving meals, pouring drinks and using cutlery where appropriate to encourage self-feeding.

We encourage children to drink throughout the day, please supply a named water bottle for your child. Fruit, milk and water are available for all children as a light snack. The provision of all meals and snacks is included in our private fees and as part of our additional services alongside funded hours, see our funding section for more information. We do not serve crisps, juice, chocolate / sweets or yoghurt with a high sugar content and ask that they are not bought in from home.

We do not use nuts in any of our cooking due to a risk of allergies, however, due to the way our food is produced by suppliers and prepared at nursery, we cannot guarantee that all foods are nut free as some may contain traces of nuts from the production methods. If your child has a serious food allergy, we will discuss with you how we will manage that. We can cater for all allergies, intolerances and religious or lifestyle preferences such as vegetarianism, we will ask for a Health Care Plan from your GP or Health Visitor if your child has a serious allergy which may require the administration of an Epi Pen. In accordance with national guidelines, we ask for 2 Epi Pens per child in case one should fail. Please see our Nursery Manager if your child requires a Health Care Plan for this or any other medical condition or special educational need.

For the 30-hour offer, your funded hours will be delivered as:

Eligibility begins in:

Total number of funded hours available in the academic Year

Weekly Hours (stretched offer from beginning of term to 31/08)

September 1140 (38 funded weeks x 30 hours) 22.35 (1140 / 51 weeks of attendance) January 720 (24 funded weeks x 30 hours) 20.57 (720 / 35 weeks of attendance) April 195 (12 funded weeks x 30 hours) 17.72 (390 / 22 weeks of attendance)

When will my funding start?

As funding is paid termly, it will start from the September, January or April after your child’s 2nd or 3rd Birthday.

Do I get 15 / 30 hours a week every week?

No, funding is paid during school term times (38 weeks per year) only. The total allowance of hours for the 15-hour offer is 570 (15 hours x 38 weeks per year). Unless you have a term time only place, we stretch these hours across the 51 weeks which we are open therefore your funded hours will be delivered as: (see table below)

We will do individual calculations for any children starting at any other time of the year.

When can my child have their funded hours?

In accordance with local and national guidance, it is at our discretion to decide how we deliver funded places. Our standard offer is to spread funding across the full year and include our additional services fee.

For the 15-hour offer, your funded hours will be delivered as:

Funded hours can be taken during any of our set sessions. Any additional hours will be charged at our hourly charge outlined in the Nursery Fees information section above. All places are subject to our occupancies as we have statutory ratio and space requirements, other than that we don’t restrict when funded hours can be taken.

Can my child attend Term Time Only?

We have taken the decision to continue to offer a limited number of term time only places because we want to remain flexible and responsive to our family’s childcare needs.

However, Government funding has been frozen since 2017 and will remain so until at least 2020, but our costs rise annually so there is a growing gap between the hourly rate we receive and the amount it costs us to deliver the high-quality provision that we pride ourselves on.

We will do individual calculations for any children starting at any other time of the year.

We open all year so our costs remain similar each month so fees would have to rise substantially for non-funded hours to cover the losses of not having places being used or paid for in school holidays. We don’t want to have to do that, therefore, in order to remain flexible but sustainable, term time only places are limited. We charge a 25% retainer to hold term time only places during school holidays.

How much will my child’s place cost with Government Funding?

This will depend on the sessions they do and when they become eligible for funding, but as an example, for a place from 8.30-6 Monday to Friday all year round, fees after your zero cost hours will be £607.25 which includes all meals and additional services (see below) This is compared with our standard full time rate before funding of £1270.

What if you don’t have any term time only places available?

You are welcome to join out waiting list, or we will help you to find a nearby setting that offers this, there is no obligation to take extra paid hours, you have the choice over whether to wait for a funded space with us or take your hours elsewhere.

What about in exceptional circumstances?

We understand that the unexpected can happen and strive to be as flexible and family friendly as we can be, we will always consider exceptional circumstances and temporarily adjust our policies to help where we can.

What does my child get in their funded hours?

Government funding pays for your child’s time with us, it is not intended to pay for the things that as a full day care provider we provide such as consumables, weekly PE sessions and a learning journey, so we have a 60p per funded hour additional services fee for to bring funded hours in line with our fully inclusive provision.

What if I don’t want to pay your additional services fee?

Delivery of these hours is legislated for in the Statutory Guidance and settings are not allowed to make it conditional that parents buy extra hours or services in order to get their funded hours, it also clarifies that

settings do not have to offer funded hours. Our decision to offer a stretched offer, including meals and additional service charges as standard, with limited term time only places has been explained above but we make all parents aware that this is our policy and other settings may deliver these hours differently to us. If our standard offer is not what you are looking for, please speak to us to discuss your options.

What if my circumstances change?

Once you are confirmed as eligible for 2-year old funding it remains in place until your child is eligible for 3-year-old funding, so nothing changes, even if your circumstances do.

If you are eligible for 30 hours childcare and your circumstances change, you may no longer be eligible for the additional 15 hours a week*. If this is the case, you will fall into a grace period as follows:

If you fall out of eligibility between: Your Grace Period will end on:

1st Jan – 10th Feb 31st Mar11th Feb – 31st Mar 31st Aug1st Apr – 26th May 31st Aug27th May – 31st Aug 31st Dec1st Sep – 21st Oct 31st Dec22nd Oct – 31st Dec 31st Mar

*If you fall out of eligibility for the 30-hour offer, you will still be eligible for the 15-hour offer.

What if I want to change settings? We will apply our 4-week notice period, including 4 weeks’ worth of funding.

What if I want to split my funding with another provider? We have a single provider policy; we don’t split funding in order to help settle your child with us.

Can I use Tax Free Childcare or Childcare Vouchers alongside this funding? Yes, you can if you meet the criteria for Tax free childcare. Childcare voucher schemes have closed to new entrants but if you already received vouchers, you can use them alongside funded hours.

What happens if my child is ill or we go on holiday? Occasional, short term absence such as illness or a family holiday is no problem at all. Full fees for privately paid hours will still be charged in order to keep your child’s place open. We are under no obligation to swop sessions or give you extra sessions to make up for any which you miss.

How do you store my information? Under the terms of our agreement with the Local Authority, we are responsible for checking original copies of documentation to confirm your child has reached the eligible age for funding, we do this by asking to see a copy of your child’s Birth Certificate or Passport, we may retain a paper or digital copy of this, which will be stored securely, in accordance with data protection and privacy requirements. The Local Authority requires us to retain details of funding claims for auditing purposes and fraud investigations, these will be deleted when they are no longer needed. Please see our Privacy Notice for information on how we use, store and delete your information.

Where can I get more information about Government Funding? You can speak to the Local Authority, to your Health Visitor, to us, or you can visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk

vital for you to register your child with a local dentist.

Please let a staff know if you need support registering

with a local Dentist. Good oral dental health is

also with the development of speech and promote

self-confidence. It is recommended for children to

brush their teeth twice a day for at least two minutes.

Page 9: tle a•isha

Illness and Exclusion

Illnesses happen and can spread quickly at nursery where children spend long periods of time in close proximity to one another. While some illness is

good for the development of a strong immune system, we remain very aware of the current health crisis which we are all living through and will continue to

be led by expert advice on how to keep the children and wider little Aisha family safe. Accordingly, any child with a new and continuous cough, fever or altered sense of taste and smell will be asked to stay home from nursery for 10 days from the day that symptoms began, in line with Government advice. Any siblings attending the nursery who are members of the same household

must also isolate for 14 days from the first day when the person in the household became ill.
