Crosspoint Human Services is announcing a $1,000 scholarship award to be
given in April. The scholarship is to be awarded through an essay competition
open to all Vermilion County High School seniors. This scholarship is to honor
Mrs. Margaret Ward, a former Danville District #118 educator and lifetime board
member of Crosspoint Human Services.
The essay is inspired by a multi-ribbon design, each ribbon representing a facet
of care given to the community by Crosspoint Human Services. The student may
pick one color or any combination of the colored ribbons. We are requesting an
essay to be about 250 to 300 words. The essay can describe a personal experi-
ence, a tribute to someone, or tell a story through someone else’s eyes. The es-
say must not contain names.
Silver Ribbon represents mental illness awareness, elder abuse or disabled children.
Green Ribbon represents mental retardation, bipolar disorder, cerebral palsy or sexual abuse.
Purple Ribbon represents domestic violence and Alzheimer’s disease.
Red Ribbon represents substance abuse, HIV and AIDS awareness.
Blue Ribbon represents eating disorders, Tourette’s syndrome and Down’s syndrome.
Please submit your essay to the school’s Guidance Office as soon as possi-
ble. Guidance Counselors will ensure that your essay is submitted to Crosspoint
by March 2, 2018. Judging will take place immediately following receipt and the
scholarship winner will be notified in April.

Box Location
The Best Practice Com-
mittee has recom-
mended that the Sug-
gestion Box for 210 Ave
C building be relocated to a mailbox in the
mailroom. The mailbox will contain blank sug-
gestion slips, envelopes to place them in, and

mittee members will check the mailbox
monthly and review submitted suggestions for
further discussion and/or action.
Did you know that Crosspoint has another pro-
gram called In-Home Respite? This service is
available to families with children and adults liv-
ing in the home that have intellectual and devel-
opmental disabilities (I/DD). Respite provides an
opportunity for caregivers to “take a break” from
the daily stressors of caring for loved ones with I/
DD. It is also designed to provide intensive or non
-intensive support services to help maintain indi-
viduals in their home. For an individual to be eligible they
must be determined to have a developmental disability. If you
know of any families that would benefit from In-Home Respite,
have them contact Joe Rasmussen at 442-3200 ext 137.
Daylight Savings
Time begins March
11. Remember to
set your clocks
ahead 1 hour.
Do you hate this Phrase?
Whatever. In 2016, whatever was voted the most
annoying word in English in a poll by
the Marist Institute for Public Opinion
for the eighth year running. Thirty-eight
percent of Americans reported that
whatever annoys them more than any
other conversational word or phrase,
with 20 percent loathing no offense but,
14 percent despising ya know, right? and
I can’t even, and 8 percent saying they
can’t take any more of the word huge.

Thought for the Month
Sometimes being a friend means
mastering the art of timing. There is a
time for silence. A time to let go and
allow people to hurl themselves into
their own destiny. And a time to pre-
pare to pick up the pieces when it’s
all over.
