“People knew when I ran for president that I smoke,”tugon ni Aquino sa isang nongovernmental organiza-

“So as long as I don’t violate any laws and I don’tdisturb anyone [I should be free to smoke]. This isone of my few remaining freedoms,” aniya.

“At the appropriate time, I

will quit smoking,” aniya.

Another Charicemilestone

The international pop wun-derkind looked so confident asshe approached each of her morethan 40 godparents — revealingthe ease and elan with which shehad tackled all 13 songs thatcomprise her just-released US de-but album, currently at No. 8 onthe Billboard Top 200.

One of the godmothers, TVPatrol news anchor Karen Davila, interviewed by a TV crew sent byOprah Winfrey (herself a god-mother, but couldn’t make it tothe ceremony), said she knewCharice had the gift to make itbig in the global music scene.

Karen’s co-anchor, JuliusBabao, waxed nostalgic as he re-called watching one of Charice’sgigs and being blown away.

Hot, hot!The heat was almost unbear-

able at the baptism font, enoughfor the faint-hearted to collapse.Mercifully, no one did.

I T was fascinating to hear Charice Pempengco slip in-to a faux British accent when she faced one of herCaucasian godfathers at her and brother Carl’s bap-

tism and confirmation rites Saturday morning at the Im-maculate Conception Cathedral in Pasig.

When the presiding priest,Pasig Bishop Francisco SanDiego, announced the end of therites, there was excitement in ev-ery godparent’s gait as they ap-proached Charice and Carl to bephotographed. It felt like posingwith a dear relative, perhaps

even like one’s own child, soyoung and full of promise.

At the church quadrangle, athrong of children from de-pressed communities around theparish held off hunger in thewait for Charice, who had pre-pared food for them. When shefinally joined them, shrill voiceserupted in glee.

But of course she sang, too —Pyramid, a cappella, the lyricsmorphing like a mantra for theweak to regain rength.

Does KC deservea show of her own?By Marinel R. Cruz

IT’S been only over amonth since KC Con-cepcion was intro-duced as a new hoston The Buzz. And yes-terday was the launchof her Kapamilyamorning show, SimplyKC. Already, somepeople doubt that the25-year-old singer-ac-tress deserves thebreak.

Do you know thatsome people askwhy the show wasgiven to you, andnot to more experi-enced hosts like ToniGonzaga?

I guess only a fewknow that I startedhosting at 17, as anMTV VJ. I did that fortwo years, hosting sixshows.

Who do you wishto feature in futureepisodes?

Tito Boy (Abunda)and Tita Kris(Aquino). Of course,I’d also like to featurePapa and Mama, butnot together. I don’thave five hours(laughs). I’d also liketo invite my friendsToni and Angel Loc-sin. I think I’ll go withthe suggestion ofMa’am Charo (Santos-Concio, network pres-ident) to feature peo-ple who make ourlives easier — garden-ers, drivers, laundrywomen and house-help.

How about a TV-film director like

Lino Cayetano, or asinger like RicoBlanco?

I don’t mind invit-ing Lino (her ex-boyfriend). Wala na-mang issue do’n.

What has yourmom got to sayabout the show?

She’s very excited. She used to tell meshe wished I had amorning show insteadof The Buzz. Afterover a month on TheBuzz, this show came. This is really like anon-the-job training.

What’s your con-tribution to the cre-ation of the show?

I sit down with theproduction team fromtime to time. I’m opento seeing the real sideof creating a show. The team is very opento my ideas.

How much of yougoes into the show?

A lot of me. I’mlearning through myguests. It was my firsttime to go biking onthat trail in San Ma-teo, Rizal, with JohnLloyd Cruz. Echo(Jericho Rosales)brought me to theConcepcion wet mar-ket in Marikina. Itwas my first time toclean bangus. Overall,I don’t need to talkabout me so much.

KC

CHARICE even invited kids from near the parish.

Two women in Buboy’slife are ‘text matesBy Dolly Anne Carvajal

I IMMENSELY enjoyed my one-on-one interview with my BFFCesar Montano for my Hello Dol-ly segment in our Sunday after-noon talk show Paparazzi. SinceBuboy and I are super-close, wejust let it all hang out as if therewas no camera around.

He just had one request be-fore the shoot. And that’s not toask him anything about his lateson Angelo because he was inter-viewed about the tragic deaththree times already on nationalTV.

That’s understandable. Be-sides, I respect his grief. I couldsense that he’s in the process ofmoving on without exactly leav-ing all the wonderful memoriesbehind. It’s my only wish thatBuboy gets to the point where histears have run dry but thoughtsof Angelo still overflow.

Losing his gubernatorial bid isnothing compared to the loss ofhis son. To ease the pain, his oth-er son Diego (who’s based inAustralia with his mom TeresaLoyzaga) is staying with himand Sunshine.

Buboy said Shine andTeresa are text mates. Iteased him that they mustbe comparing notesabout him.

Does Buboynow have an elec-tion phobia aftertwo losses? “I’mstill open to any-thing,” he said.“Umiyak ang puso kowhen I lost but it won’tstop me from pursuing myvision for Bohol. Di namansumama loob ko because Iknow I gave it my all.Parang may inalok ako ngtubig pero ayaw naman umi-nom so sa iba ko na lang i-offer yung tubig. That’show I think of my loss paradi ako masyadong ma-down.”

Will he resume hostingSinging Bee? “Everything’sup in the air,” he said. “Iasked ABS-CBN what plansthey have for me. I had ameeting with TV5. They are

offering me two movies and twoshows. I’m weighing my options. But even if I remain a Kapamilya,I will still do the two movieswith the Kapatid network since Idon’t have a movie contract withStar Cinema anyway.”

After all the storms, Buboy isnow seeing rainbows. In myheart and the hearts of everyonewho loves him, Buboy will al-ways be our winner. No need forPCOS machines because our lovefor Buboy is unquantifiable.
