Incorporating Musical Instruments into Storytime Sessions
Presented by Jennifer Knight - Calimesa Library
The Advantages of Music in your Program
• Adding Musical Instruments is a good way to engage large, mixed age groups.
• Musical Activities are typically enjoyed by children of all ages.
• Active Movement between stories help kids “get the wiggles out” and be better prepared to listen to the story.
• When used on a regular basis, music adds routine and a sense of structure to your program.
• Musical Instruments give children a chance to actively engage in library programming without disturbing other participants.
Typical Music Tools
Let’s Get Crafty! Recycled Maracas o Water Bottle o 2 Toilet Paper Rolls o Filling of your choice o Sturdy Tape
