THERE ARE ONLY 5 CHAPTERS IN PART 4CHAPTER 33: provides an Introduction to the Architecture Content Framework

CHAPTER 34 describes the Content Metamodel - a formal structure for managing architectural work products or artifacts, to ensure consistency within the ADM and provide guidance for using architecture tools

Architectural Artifacts are described in CHAPTER 35, which describes the recommended artifacts for each phase of the ADM, with guidance for developing views

Architecture Deliverables referenced in the ADM are then described in CHAPTER 36CHAPTER 37 explains the concept of Building Blocks

THE CONTENT METAMODELAn EA metamodel provides a formal description of the type the components required by an enterprise architecture. The TOGAF

metamodel is divided into a Core and a set of Extensions.

Chapter 34 describes in detail the entities (components) and their relationships within the TOGAF metamodel.

INTRODUCTION (CHAPTER 33)

• A deliverable is a work product that is contractually specified and formally reviewed, agreed, and signed off by the stakeholders

• An artifact is an architectural work product that describes an aspect of the architecture. They are classified in TOGAF as catalogs (lists of things), matrices (showing relationships between things), and diagrams (pictures of things)

• A building block represents a potentially re-usable component of business, IT, or architectural capability.

BUILDING BLOCKS

• Artifacts and deliverables are closely related. Deliverables will either contain, or be made up of, one or more artifacts, as shown by the example in Figure 33-2:

• CHAPTER 36 provides descriptions of the following TOGAF deliverables: Architecture Building Blocks, Architecture Contract, Architecture Definition Document, Architecture Principles, Architecture Repository, Architecture Requirements, Architecture Roadmap, Architecture Vision; Business Principles, Business Goals and Business Drivers; Capability Assessment; Change Request; Communication Plan; Compliance Assessment; Implementation and Migration Plan; Implementation Governance Model; Organizational Model for Enterprise Architecture; Request for Architecture Work; Requirements Impact Assessment; Solution Building Blocks; Statement of Architecture Work; Tailored Architecture Framework.

ARCHITECTURAL ARTIFACTS• CHAPTER 35 starts with an overview of some of the most

important basic concepts in EA - adapted from formal definitions contained in ISO/IEC 42010. This includes architecture, system, architectural description, stakeholder, concerns, views and viewpoints.

• The chapter also lists the TOGAF suggested architectural artifacts by ADM Phase.

• Finally it gives some detailed examples of how to develop the TOGAF recommended architecture views.

BUILDING BLOCKS• CHAPTER 37 describes the generic characteristics of building

blocks; it then explains the distinction between Architecture Building Blocks (ABBs) and Solution Building Blocks (SBBs).

• This chapter also describes the basic principles of building blocks in Architecture Design and Building Block Design.

• Before going on to look at the specification process for building blocks in the ADM.
