As a result of spot residential sampling results for the period 1 June 2015 to 30 September 2015, the GMWU was notified by IDEM that these samples exceeded allowable limits and additional samples would be required by 30 October 2015. In addition, an action plan selecting from allowable options to reduce lead exceedance levels would be required by 31 December 2015. Finally, the selected option is to be in place by 1 January 2020 and start with the sampling of 20 locations and then may be reduced after two consecutive six month periods of compliant samples. It is important to note that these samples were taken from locations throughout Greentown and that at no time has the water leaving the GMWU treatment facility exceeded allowable limits. The Town of Greentown and the GMWU have actively complied with all elements of the IDEM letter. In fact, the GMWU is ahead of schedule. Residents were notified as required and IDEM was notified of the selection to pursue phosphate injection as the remediation method. Any changes to the GMWU treatment process must be approved by IDEM and the required permit has already been applied for and is currently in the public comment phase as required by Indiana Code. The current public comment period runs through 27 February 2016. However, based on issues raised in the community, GMWU has requested emergency approval which was received 5 February 2016. The equipment will be installed and operational by Friday February 12 th . All of the above actions are indicative of a Town Council responding proactively to this issue and exceeding the required timeframe by over three years. Thank you for your time. Scott A.
