Brief presentation of the BBU Cluj

Today, Babeş-Bolyai University is Romania's largest, the most complex and diversely structured university.

This is not a subjective assessment, but a conclusion drawn from the main indicators which define the identity of a university. The university now has more than 45,500 students enrolled in the 21 faculties which currently exist.

The Babeş-Bolyai University provides courses for more than 45,500 students (of which more than 500 are foreign students, more than 3,000 are doctoral students and 4,300 are secondary education teachers), the educational and research activity being carried out by a teaching staff of over 1,700.

Multiculturalism at the BBU Cluj

The multiculturalism orgiginates directly from the history of the University. The present structure was established in 1959 by joining the romanian Babes and the hungarian Bolyai Universities.

Located in a geographical area characterized by the presence of diverse ethnic and religious groups, our University adheres to a policy of multiculturalism, its students and teaching staff being Romanian, as well as Hungarian, German and Roma.

15 of our 21 faculties provide both a Romanian and a Hungarian curriculum, and 9 of them provide both a Romanian and a German curriculum. Our University proposes academic studies for 105 specializations in Romanian, 52 in Hungarian, 13 in German and 4 in English.

Multiculturalism at the BBU Cluj

Having departments for training students in widely-spoken languages (English, French, German, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese), in other modern languages (Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Ukrainian, Polish, Slovakian), in the great Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), Babes-Bolyai University offers varied opportunities for language training.

With its four theology faculties Orthodox, Greek Catholic, Roman Catholic and Reformed, representing the seven Christian denominations in Transylvania our university offers singular opportunities for the study of theology.
