Traditional News Alabama Society of Traditional Bowmen Summer 2006 From the Presidents Quiver I am happy to report that we had 277 registered shooters for the 2006 Children’s Hospital Benefit Tournament and raised $3,000.00 in proceeds. It was a beautiful weekend regardless of the rain on Friday evening. My hat is off to our Range Manager, Gary McKay and his detachment of recruits. Not only did they help setup and breakdown the range, but they kept the water and ice on the course filled, picked up trash, helped serve dinner Saturday evening AND raised $520.00 for the Children’s Hospital with the their novelty shoots. They weren’t alone in setting up the course though. Several members were there too. Abe Jones, Steve Massey, Sterling Holbrook, Paul & Kirk Thomas. I’m sure I’ve probably missed someone’s name, but it is not intentional. Speaking of the Holbrooks, it sure was nice to see Sterling and Krista Holbrook. It’s been a while since they’ve been able to attend one of our shoots. I hope they can make it to more of them. While we’re speaking of returning faces, We’ve had several of our past ASTB officers return and I am very happy to see them back. On a less happy note, we have about 40 members that haven’t renew yet this year. You should find a membership renewal form in this newsletter. Please. Let me encourage you to fill it out and send it in with your dues. These make it possible to: send you this newsletter, buy targets for the shoots, pay for the shoot locations, do upkeep on the target trailer, and buy scorecards. ASTB Sport Shirts Are Available Some people call them Golf Shirts. Others call them Polo shirts. Whatever you call them, they’re available. We’ll be taking orders for these at the next couple of shoots. Because of the expense, these will be pre-order only. They are Forest Green with a Gold ASTB embroidered on the left front. They are $30. For an additional $5.00, we can have your name embroidered on the right front.

From the Presidents Quiver

I am happy to report that we had 277 registered shooters for the 2006 Children’s Hospital Benefit Tournament and raised $3,000.00 in proceeds. It was a beautiful weekend regardless of the rain on Friday evening. My hat is off to our Range Manager, Gary McKay and his detachment of recruits. You're Invited and You Don't Want To Miss the2nd Annual 2006

"Howard Hill Southeastern Traditional Archery Classic" This past June of 2005, I hosted the 1st "Howard Hill SoutheasternTraditional Archery Classic". The course I laid out was a in a brand new area that had never been used before in an archery tournament at Tannehill State Park.

Every comment I heard about the target set-up was fantastic and I had used enough space between the targets to virtually eliminate crowd back-up. I was very excited about this new area, but I failed to realize that I carried the course out too far in one direction. This didn't seem to bother some people but there were enough complaints from others that I had to listen.

That situation has been corrected with still a new, better and more beautiful area that will make a loop and will make the walk unbelievably shorter without sacrificing the distances set between the targets. For those of you that didn't make it, I gave over $2000.00 worth door prizes Saturday night. Supper was served from Jim 'N Nick's Bar B Q, and it was truly some of the best Bar B Q I've ever tasted. The door prizes have already begun to come in and this year there will be even more and better prizes at the shoot. I don't think I can do better on supper, so, Jim 'N Nick's Bar B Q will be back again this year. This year's 2nd annual "Howard Hill Southeastern Traditional Archery Classic" will again be held the 1st weekend in June. The dates are June 3rd & 4th, 2006. Campers and vendors are more than welcome to come in anytime Thursday or Friday and set up. Speaking of Vendors, there will be plenty to satisfy all your archery needs.

IMPORTANT!! To try and accommodate weekend participants and those who can only make it either Saturday or Sunday, I'm attempting something I haven't seen at any other tournament. I will still have the format of a must shoot both days competition for those shooting the entire weekend. However, for those individuals that cannot make it both days, I will have a traditional class for men and women that can only make it for one day. Both will receive 1st, 2nd & 3rd place awards for the winners. Both will still be a multi-round tournament. The high score for both days will be combined to determine the winners for the

weekend competitors and the highest score shot on either Saturday or Sunday will determine the winners for the single day competitors. There will be designated cards for both competitions. I have relaxed some of the rules to make this event a little more relaxed and fun. All rules are on the flyer enclosed. There will again be T-Shirts commemorating this event and trophies uniquely designed with Howard Hill's image. There were so many people that arrived by Friday that I have decided to have a varmint shoot from noon til 6 pm with a special winner's award to be given away Saturday during supper. Saturday night I will also be having a 3-D coon shoot with McKenzie targets for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.

This year there will be a raffle for the Grand Prize. Some lucky winner will receive a Howard Hill longbow, custom made just for them. There will also be one of a kind back quiver from Cedar Ridge Leather with an image of Howard Hill on it. I think everyone will be very pleased with the target set-up I'm putting together. I plan to have a few surprises for everyone. This tournament will be exciting, challenging and yet fun for all archers, experienced or just getting started. Please help me pass the word and I think you'll be glad you came. For more information, you may also visit my web-site site at www.howardhillse.com
