Breathtaking scenery from Masaai Mara and Serengeti

The good old-fashioned story board was a major player in makingof Travel Africa – From Kenya to Tanzania. The biggest challenge was sort-ing through hundreds of images. My travel log theme began in Kenya, with the last stop at the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania. Adobe Illustrator was my tool of choice, but Fireworks played a critical role with special details for focal points. InDesign was the critical tool to create my digital story.

With my theme in place, I began my search for the right images to tell the story of my travels. The hardest part of finding the images was to narrow down the select few I used for each page. My theme was loosely carried through each two-page spread with my images so there was a visual balance to my project.

After a fruitless search on Kuler by Adobe, I discovered the perfect color scheme in the background of the Masaai woman I used on the first two-page spread. The muted orange and pale green colors helped to bring out the dusty-brown feel of colors of the animal fur and Serengeti grasses.

The biggest challenge of my project was setting text by transparencies of the Masaai woman, the elephant and the lion. It was a real trick to balance the lines of texts aound the figures so the fonts were not crowded together.

The kerning in my project played the most critical role to properly display my text. It seemed like an endless job of edits so I wasn’t stretching the font to distort the layout. But all my last minute edits were worth it to make my project complete. I was really satisfied I produced a quality project.
