Cost and length of approval depends on where you applied for your visa. Applications should indicate your length of stay, purpose of visit, and where you will arrive and depart in the country. When to Go Hanoi is one of the few places in Southeast Asia that experiences all four seasons. As such, it is best to know when to visit the city to be able to enjoy and explore it without trouble. Summers, from May to August, can be hot in Hanoi, with temperatures rising up to 32 degrees centigrade. Winter, from December to February, can be bitter cold, with temperatures going as low as 10 degrees centigrade. The ideal time to visit Hanoi is during Spring, from February to April, when nature is in full bloom; and Fall, from September to November, when there is a cool breeze and dry atmosphere. Currency The local currency used in Hanoi is the Dong. Coins come in 200, 500, 1,000, and 5,000 denominations, while bills range from 10,000 to 50,000. Although the Dong is the preferred currency in most transactions, don't be surprised to find a few souvenir shops where items are in US dollars. Changing currencies is not going to be a problem, as many Hanoi accommodations offer currency exchange and banks and ATMs are abundant, as well. Electricity Power in the city is 220 volts at 50 Hz, and sockets in most hotels will take 2-pronged flat or round plugs. Transportation To avoid getting lost in translation, it is best to carry a map when traveling around the city, especially when riding public transportation, such as buses and taxis. Buses are the cheapest way of going around the city, while Cyclos or rickshaws are better for weaving in and out of Hanoi's bustling Old Quarter. Additional tip: always agree on how much the ride will cost before getting into one of the Cyclos.
