BUSINESS

DAVID WESCHLER

Having already raised more than $200 million in funding, CEO Marc Lore is trying to get Amazon shoppers to

defect to jet.com, which launched on Tuesday.

JET.COM

How It Works:

Other e-commerce sites like Amazon and Google Shop do

not sell their products cheaper than they’re sold in

the store. Jet is changing this by offering discounts up to

15%. Additionally, Jet has its own technology that allows it

to cut down on underlying costs. Amazon would already

be familiar with CEO Marc Lore, as he sold a different company to them for $545

Million back in 2010.

HANDS-FREE TINDER

T3, a Texas based advertising agency, has developed an

application that allows Tinder users to rely solely on their

heart beat. The app, in conjunction with the Apple

Watch, monitors heart rate in order to determine potential matches. If the user's pulse

increases, the app automatically swipes right.

MARKETINGINTERACTIVE TRAVEL AD BY GRAUBÜNDEN Tourismus

A travel ad for Vrin, Switzerland was placed in a Zurich train station. The ad

became a live video chat with a resident of Vrin from his mountaintop residence. He

would stop bystanders and invite them to his home, printing out a ticket for the next

train there.

Most tourism ads have a clichéd formula, but this campaign avoided cliches by not

only informing its audience but incorporating its audience. While most

travel ads are supposed to “take you there,” this campaign literally did.

Websites can now filter out users who do not have specific genetic traits. The code, posted on GitHub, uses the home genetic testing kit company 23andMe’s API. Users enter their genetic info and the websites can restrict the access. The code begins a conversation about exclusivity on the internet. Democratizing internet works for

certain brands but also a disconnect for posh luxury brands.

Potential Uses: Safe space for frequently trolled women, dating sites restricted to

Hasidic Jews, doesn’t match two recessive genes, pharmaceutical websites that know your genetic predisposition to certain drugs

Ethical Dilemmas: Privacy and genetic data mining
