TEAM-UP YOUTH MINSTRY BEGINS. As announced last month, we have secured two youth ministry leadership teams to help implement a new structured approach which will be an effective way of giving our young people:

Opportunities to be involved in the total life of the church A variety of adults to whom they can relate A structured way to be involved in the planning and leading of their own program.

The entire youth group is connected to adult leaders in small groups/teams to plan and lead four or five activities for the coming year in five areas:

Worship: involvement in our regular worship services, Ushers, liturgists, assist with offerings, Youth Sunday worship, adding worship elements to our various activities whether by prayers or devotions at our activities or other forms of intentional focus on God.

Ministry Within the Congregation: Activities involving youth with other church members (young or old) of our congregation; participating in the wider programs of the church, service TO our congregation and pro-grams. E.g., Rummage Sale in March of each year. Service projects, dinners,

Service to the community (beyond our church): Engaging in activities WITH our congregation reaching out to our local and global communities, e.g., Mann Food Bank, Feeding the Homeless at Loaves and Fishes, Stop Hunger Now monthly offerings and annual meal packing event, helping neighbors in our community or taking part in walkathons to support local charities, taking part in our South African partners’ visits to Pensacola, etc.

Fellowship: games and recreation, trips, retreats, conferences at MoRanch and Montreat, Dogwood Acres events, suppers and social events.

Explorations: Studies, topical programs, issues, personal needs, social needs, panel discussions or presenters bringing insights to our youth and congregation, etc.

We aim to have a balanced program of activities and endeavors, to build an adult-youth partnership in leadership and planning and implementing our annual program, and to train our youth in leadership skills. Thank you to our new 2016-2017 Leadership Teams:

Dear Prayer Group, Thank you for your adding me to your prayer list. I feel better every day. Warmly, Barney Walsh

Dear Friends, Once again, I feel the need to say “Thank You” for sending my son, Greg Hess the prayer cards. These mean so much to him and I often review the signatures and tell him a little about the person who prays for him. He has been chroni-cally ill and bed bound for over 14 years and really appreci-ates your kinds. So many of you inquire about him. Bless you! And our dear pastor brings communion with Kevin Pulford. This gives Greg great peace in his heart so, more thanks! In His love, Joan Bost

Dear Hugh and Trinity Family, We hope all is well in Pensacola! We’re doing great, still in Florence, SC. Lindsey is now 10 weeks old and has just started smiling. I’ve returned to work part time and will be back full time in August. We hope to be back in Pen-sacola to visit family sometime this fall and will be sure to attend service if we are there on a Sunday. Please give everyone our love! Tracy, Charles, Whitney, Connor and Lindsey Yowell

Dear Prayer Group, I want to thank each of you for your

thoughtful prayers over the past few years for my wife and

me. She is a stroke victim of 32 years ago at age 50, is seri-

ously disabled and soon to be 82 years of age. We will be

married for 59 years this October. Your prayers for us have

meant so much and as a Christian myself, prayers are our

greatest comfort.

Trinity Presbyterian Elementary Sunday School Our regular elementary Sunday School will be starting back on August 21st. We will have classes for our 4 year olds through 5th graders. We are in need of teachers and substitutes. We can accommodate anyone’s schedule. Please do not let scheduling issues or potential conflicts deter you from a most rewarding experience. We plan to have teaching teams that will allow the teams to cover absences. Also, we will have a substitute list and a coordi-nator to fill a need if the team cannot cover it. The curriculum that we use is very full featured and gives you op-tions to make the lesson plan fit the time and our students’ needs. Please contact Steve Takeuchi at 994-8103 or [email protected]. “Let the little children come to me…” Matthew 19:14

Legacy Fund This article highlights a Legacy Fund grant to ECARE and Greater Little Rock Baptist Church. In the Spring of 2013, the Service Team recommended a $7,500.00 Legacy grant to Every Child a Reader in Escambia (ECARE) and the Greater Little Rock Baptist Church Child Development Center (GLRBC). In May of 2013, the Session approved the application. On July 9, 2013, Jim Stolhanske on behalf of ECARE; Pastor Lonnie Wesley, III, on behalf of GLRBC and Pastor Hugh Hamilton on behalf of Trinity, entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The intent of the MOU was to develop a partner-ship among ECARE, GLRBC and Trinity to improve the educational out-comes of pre-k students enrolled in the GLRBC Child Development Center. The ECARE Project Ready model includes the Reading Pals program, which matches adult volunteers with four year old pre-kindergarten students to provide individual support for early literacy development; family involve-ment activities including Family Nights where early literacy coaches guide parents and guardians in interactive literacy activities with their children; and professional development for the four year old classroom teacher led by the school district’s Wee Read Early Literacy Program. From July, 2013, through May of 2014, steps were taken to implement this program at GLRBC, several Trinity members volunteered as Reading Pals for the pre-k students enrolled at GLRBC, and two family nights were held to demon-strate early literacy techniques for the families of the four-year olds enrolled at GLRBC. However, due to a lack of participation by GLRBC, ECARE returned most of the $7,500.00 in Legacy funds. It is hoped that a partner-ship between ECARE and Trinity will be developed in the future. Please watch for this column to learn more about the difference the Legacy Fund is making. If you have suggestions for future initiatives funded by the Legacy Fund, please talk to a member of the staff, session or legacy commit-tee or submit a suggestion in the suggestion box in the Narthex or on line at the Trinity website. Please remember that Legacy Funds are dedicated to projects outside the normal Church budget. To learn more about legacy fund priorities go to our webpage at www.trinitypcola.org/legacy. Legacy Committee: Jan Beck, Giles Yokel, Jean Norman, Steve Takeuchi, Bob Palmer and Leah McCreary. Ex Officio members are Hugh Hamilton, Sharon Robbins and Ruth White.

ART in the LIBRARY - Our featured Artist for July/August is Mary Black, known to the Library Board as "the Spirit of the Library"! Enjoy her lovely paintings, and her description of her art background, (below), but add to that her talents which include a wonderful creativ-ity and love, especially for children, which has fueled the The Children's Summer Reading Challenge for several years. She also creates the Library Bulletin Board to sug-gest good reading appropriate to each Church Season! Mary and Joe Black have been quietly active at Trinity, offering their loving and caring services since 1972! ARTIST: Mary Black STYLE: Realism THEME: Landscapes, Florals MEDIUM: Oil on Canvas A Word from Mary Black, Artist: What a fasci-nating and beautiful world God has created for us! Al-though we can never create the dimension of God’s crea-tion nor capture the essence of God’s world we are filled with wonder as we are mindful of the dimensions of His time, space and matter. My interest in art goes back to early childhood to the hills of Tennessee. With the use of primitive mate-rials such as charcoal from our wood burning fireplace, water colors made from the dye of berries and roots our drawings were made. These early activities were enjoyed for the creative work of putting a mark or shape on a “canvas” and watching the art design evolve. Later in life there were classes at USM, USA, and PJC. These studies of art design, geometric patterns and abstract work were more disciplined in the art process than I was accus-tomed – and, I learned how much I didn’t know! It wasn’t until I studied under Marian Guthrie, local artist and teacher, that I began to develop a knowl-edge and appreciation for principles of art such as shape, color, value and balance. Her techniques and basic guide for artist were repeated frequently: “be creative, be spon-taneous, let viewer know the artist has been there, invest time in paining, draw or paint every day…” The paintings chosen for the July Trinity Art Display are of the realism style. The paintings are oil on canvas with a landscape and floral theme ---an expression of the joy and beauty of God’s world. Paintings are inspired by God’s creations and although God’s beautiful world can’t be reproduced His world leads one to contemplate the time and space around us and to marvel at the complexity of His crea-tion. Those paintings that you note lacking in detail and seemingly unfinished are probably my attempt at impressionism. The Silence of The Mist Misty Silence of the Fog Noah’s Quest Happy Above

Grief Support Group How do you understand grief when your heart is bro-ken by the death of a loved one? To survive and live forward, those who grieve must find answers. Beyond the Broken Heart is a support group for those who are grieving the death of a loved one and are in need of a community to share the loneliness of grief. Scriptural wisdom will be used to explore the issues of grief and offer spiritual encouragement for a life of renewed hope and joy. The group will also offer some specific coping strategies to guide the way back to fullness of life. If you are grieving the death of a loved one, please join us on the journey through grief.

The Uganda Building Project

At the beginning of May, our 3 acre building site was an empty field. Today we have made some serious progress!

The first thing we needed to build was a 12ft x 25ft storage shed to secure all the equipment and materials. This will later be con-verted into a kitchen.

The next thing was to start a perimeter wall to secure the entire compound. Praise God Benjamin Troyer was there to ensure that the proper mix of concrete was poured for the wall founda-tion, since the local mix would have quickly fallen to dust!

At the end of May we purchased a manual cement block making machine. The crew started the monumental, five week task of making 14,200 cement blocks! They celebrated the completion with a good ole fashioned Ugandan pig roast.

They’ve also made all the bricks for the Dorm walls, as well as its footer and septic tank.

At the end of June, Ronnie Willis arrived from Fort Walton Beach, FL. He’s taken on the role of supervising the crews so Benjamin can focus on administrative work. His great sense of humor and work ethic has really boosted things.

But Pastor David Opio is the real brains behind the op-eration. In a culture where trust can be a problem, David is an intelligent, integrous man who deeply cares about this project. Without him, we would have no clue what prices are fair for materials, or even where to find them.

Thank you Trinity family for making all of this possible!
