Outreach & Community Engagement Program

Goal: Increase public awareness and public involvement in the restoration and protection of the Bay and its rivers.

Deadlines: Twice a year (December 7, 2012, July 2013)

Funding Levels: Awareness Track $5,001 ‐ $15,000 

Behavior Change Track $5,001 ‐ $35,000

Eligible Applicants: Non‐profits, public agencies, watershed organizations, etc.

Outreach and Community Engagement Grant Program

Behavior Change Track: Target a specific change in behavior within a specific target audience through a social marketing framework

Key: Identify audience perceptions (barriers and benefits)

‘Well‐informed’ behavior change projects applying social science strategies based on target audience assessment

Outreach & Community Engagement Program

Is more similar to conventional outreach campaigns

Education and Awareness are important components and pre‐requisites to behavior change

Will increase knowledge and change attitudes

Awareness Track

Community GreeningGoal: Increase the percentage of tree

community associations, faith based organizations, etc.

Green Streets, Green Jobs, Green Towns Grant Program

Goal:  Provide planning, design, and constructionfunds for “green” streets.   Will also fundstudies on feasibility and green jobs.

Partner:  EPA Region 3Maryland Department of Natural Resources

Deadlines:  March 2013

Funding Level: $5,001 ‐ $35,000 

Eligible Applicants: Non‐profit organizations, local and county agencies, other tax‐exempt entities

Restoration ProgramGoal: Promote on‐the‐ground restoration 

activities that demonstrate restoration techniques and engage Maryland citizens

Deadlines: December 7, 2012;  July 2013

Funding Level: $5,000 ‐ $50,000 for projects based on a watershed plan;

$5,000 ‐ $25,000 for projects not based on a watershed plan

Eligible Applicants: Non‐profits, public agencies, watershed organizations, community associations, etc.

Goal: Promote shoreline stabilization techniques thatuse natural habitat elements to protect shorelines from erosion while also providing critical habitat for bay wildlife

Deadlines: February 2013, August 2013

Funding Level: $100,000, 100% cost share for projects on public property, 75% for HOA property, 25% for private property

Eligible Applicants: Non‐profits, public agencies, watershed organizations, community associations, private homeowners (with a non‐profit sponsor), etc.
