At MBLWHOI, our patrons browse the OPAC, not the stacks, so our creativity is in the headings and authorities, not the classification numbers Slide 3 MLA - April 29, 2004 There are only two kinds of people who believe themselves able to read a MARC record without referring to a stack of manuals: a handful of our top catalogers, and those on serious drugs. For some series which are important to us, we put the authorized heading in the 440, no matter what. Its better for searching and display if all relevant items have it in the same tag.
