4HistoryIn 1947 Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR founds Toys for Tots in Los Angeles, California. Over 5,000 toys were collected during the first campaign in 1947. The first toy was a handmade doll.

In 1989 the U. S. Marine Corps identifies the need for the creation of a charity to be the fundraising and support organization for the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program.

5DonationsToys should be unwrapped to enable coordinators and volunteers to determine that gift is safe for distribution and to identify the appropriate age and gender for each gift.

Gift Certificates/cards are a safe and easy way for donors to give money to the charity. Gift certificates/cards should be to toy/department stores.

Toys that resemble realistic weapons or that cause bodily harm WILL NOT be distributed.

There are a few activities that require further investigation. -Door-to-door Santas -Telemarketers. - Make note that these are not authorized activities of the Toys for Tots Foundation.

Far worse, than a door to door Santa is someone that has been authorized to be a part of the Toys for Tots Program that gives us a bad name. Coordinators and volunteers represent and should try to exceed the values that the general public have placed on this program and uphold them to the very best of their abilities.

Any questionable activities should be investigated locally, and if necessary, written up and forwarded to the Foundation and we will provide guidance in resolving this situation.

If the media contacts you; contact us, we can provide input to help organize your thoughts. Remember the bottom line is to be honest and only state the facts. Open the book. We have nothing to hide. As a result there wont be a story

7SummaryHistoryDonations2014 Twin Cities Toys for Tots Campaign

We have had people prosecuted for depositing funds in their own accounts, and stealing toys. - Passing out toys to friends and family that do not qualify for Toys for Tots is a sign of favoritism. - This program is designed to help individuals and families that are struggling financially. -These acts may not be recognized immediately, but it will come to light and the laws will be enforced.

-Just as bad as stealing from the organization is damaging its reputation with rude behavior and actions. We had a volunteer that thought they were helping to raise donated items for a fundraiser and when they approached a possible donor, they became rude and obnoxious because they were not receiving what they thought qualified as an acceptable donation. Any donation is better than nothing and we need to always be appreciative.

- We are representing a charity and seeking support.Be nice! Questions?
