Harden Hunting ClubOh, the irony that life throws at us. Graham Martin-Dye from Delta has put in a round thathas been bubbling to the surface for somemonths now and has claimed the August AGrade Monthly Medal last Saturday. In a mix-up of the agricultural based companies I amled to believe that Tony Campbell will be a surething for the Delta Trophy when next held.It was a glorious Saturday for winter golf and

a modest Men's field strode out onto the CountryClub links for the Thompson's Rural Supplies August Monthly Medal. With a field down in numbers due to the Whackers & Tipplers Club annual sojourn to the South Coast, those thatplayed enjoyed the marvellous playing condi-tions. As indicated above, Graham Martin-Dye prevailed to claim the event and the A GradeMedal. Graham's round could have been somuch better except for needing to put a steeringwheel and hand brake on some wayward driv-ing, and the hit-wrong-ball wipe 6 on the last, yetwas still a solid 83 / 71. Runner up in the Amedal was Darrell Cassidy with a 72 nett.Scoring was extremely tough on Saturday as

experienced by the whole field. The lightevening drizzle the night before slowed the runa fraction but interestingly nobody netted belowpar or played better than their handicap. Evenmore curious is that next week we start theMen's Club Championships and this currentform would tend to indicate that over 4 rounds, the betting at this point in time, is wide open. The B Grade Medal was claimed by Tim

Beveridge who is in a purple patch presently.Tim claimed the B Medal in a close tussle on a countback 75 nett from Mr I Don't Care What Anyone Says I Am Baaaaaack !! - Robert Bates.Robert keeps extending his handicap and is firming as a wildcard favourite for the McLeanGold Cup over the next 2 weekends. The A Grade scratch was claimed by the day'srunner up Darrell Cassidy with an 80 off thebeater. B Grade Scratch was claimed by RobertBates on 93 (hmmmmmm more reasons toworry !!). Balls went back to 75 nett and wereawarded to D Cassidy (72), G Bates (73), RickPreston (75), Tim Beveridge (75), and RobertBates (75).Nearest the Pin on 18 went to Tim Beveridge

yet again. Tim put another great shot in to claimhis 37th nearest the pin for the season. We willneed to have a word to Barb to buy Tim someballs for your birthday in order that the field getsa chance at one of these events. Either that orwe need to put the trophy on the 8th hole moreoften. The Brown Box Incentive Door Prize wentto Laurie Monaghan.Midweek Comp

The return to better numbers is helping the fieldsize of the midweekers with this week being

another good rollup. In a sign that retirement is agreeing with him,

our former local Vet has streeted the field toclaim the goodies. Graham Taylor has returneda nett 39.5 on the par 47 version of the 12 holetrack this week, recording the only score sub 40nett. Sterling effort Graham, and for your effortsthe handicapper had a grin on him like a split watermelon in lopping a massive 7.5 off yourhandicap for next weeks adventure.Other scores of note this week included Ron

Oakman with a 41 nett, Peter Orr with a 42.5nett, Mr Bedford with a 43 nett and Jim Wrightwith 43.5 nett. Mr & Mrs Walker were next in thefield a further shot back.Thank You

Captain Geoff at his Saturday speech made special mention on the efforts of GreenkeeperRoy and his efforts to make the course as goodas it presently is. Again a vote of thanks to Tim Beveridge for his assistance in broadleaf spraying and also to the Golfers who would understand that a hiatus from mowing was required for a week to 10 days so that the chemical could actually penetrate and work.Coming Up

The nomination sheet is on the Bar for theHolden Scramble which is to be held on theweekend of 13/14 September. Start getting yourteams together as this event is now the week-end before the Australian 2 Man AmbroseChampionships and a good field presents agood opportunity to get a team or two off to regionals. The Australian 2 Man Ambrose is nearly full.

Last opportunities to nominate are closing if youhave not got your entries in. Forms are on thebar and must be paid to the staff with entrymonies to secure a place. I know for a fact thefirst cull of the draw has been done and spacesare very limited if you need to get in.This Week

This week sees Round 1 of the Men's Championships and Sunday will see Round 2.The weekends events will be proudly brought tous by Chris Hocking on Saturday and HardenBearing Service on Sunday. Also on Saturday and Sunday will be the

Ladies Foursomes Championships with Ev &Maryanne looking to defend their title. HardenPharmacy and Vall Kerrison are thanked in ad-vance for their trophies. And to leave you with a golf quote for the

week;A chap named John Updike once said …....

“The golf swing is like a suitcase into which weare trying to pack one too many things.”Enjoy.Alby.
