met ’n kriminele rekord nie. Hulleis meestal eerlike mense wat werksoek.

“Dit help nie dat jy die ouens metdie een hand wegjaag, maar hullemet die ander hand werk aanbiednie.”

Niemand sê ook dat hulle elke dagdie omgewing patrolleer, maar hyerken dat potensiële misdadigersnet sal wag vir die polisie om verbyte ry voordat hulle iets onwettigsprobeer.

“Onsmoet saamwerk,” dringNie-mand aan.

“Voertuigeienaars moet alarmsinstalleer en ratslotte gebruik! Onshuil saam met die mens wie se kar

Golden Arrow Bus Services will be increas-ing its passenger fares by an average of 8 per-cent on Monday (26 December).

The adjustment comes after all other op-tions had been exhausted, and is the first in-crease since December last year.

The average 8 percent applies to normal

tickets, whilst pensioners will experience a 3,2percent increase.

Passengers using 10-ride clipcards can post-pone paying the increased fares until Sunday8 January by purchasing their new passengerclipcards before the change of price takes ef-fect.

The meeting was an initiative by Ward Councillor Grant Twigg, and by doingso he set an example to all councillors in Cape Town. He didn’t only listen to the complaints (ranging from noise levels to street maintenance), but he also let officials fromvarious departments answer to the community. Hier het die polisie hulle uiteindelik afge-sny en 585 perlemoen in die voertuig ontdek.

Die twee insittendes is in hegtenis geneemen volgens die woordvoerder van die plaasli-ke polisie, kaptein Gerhard Niemand, hethulle toe inligting gekry wat hulle na anderverdagtes in die gebied gelei het.

“Ons het uiteindelik ongeveer 800 eenhe-de perlemoen en spesiale toerusting gekon-fiskeer,” sê Niemand.

Hy sluit af om te sê dat onwettige perle-moenaktiwiteite nie ’n groot probleem inWallacedene is nie, maar erken dat gevallewel voorkom.

Perlemoenstropers is verledeweek inhegtenisgeneem inKraaifonteinnadat hullevan Milnertonagtervolg is.Die perlemoenen toerustingis gekonfiskeer.

Itwas, of course, not just adayof receivingpresents, but also knowledge, as policetaught them valuable lessons in staying safethis festive season. In between the speechesand the gift presentation, the fire depart-ment and the K-9 unit held demonstrations,which the children appreciated almost as

much as the gifts.According to Lofdal’s Pastor Chris Ferrei-

ra, the day was truly blessed.“We were very satisfied with proceedings

and it was a joy to light up their lives withsuch an event,” says Ferreira, before thank-ing all those who participated in the day anddonated presents.

Kraaifontein police spokesperson, Cap-tain Gerhard Niemand, agrees with Ferrei-ra and reports there were thankfully no un-savoury incidents at the event.

The educational day will hopefully livelong in the minds of the children from Bloe-kombos and Wallacedene.

Die nuwe bestuurder van dieSubraad 7 (voorheen Koeberg-subraad) – wat Durbanville endele van Brackenfell, Kraaifon-tein en Philadelphia insluit– kén van raakvat.

Drie jaar in die kantoor van dieWes-Kaapse premier Helen Zilletydens haar termyn as burgemees-ter van Kaapstad, daarna nog tweejaar met Dan Plato en die afgelopemaande met Patricia de Lille, wasvir Carin Viljoen die beste leer-skool.

Viljoen het van 13 April 2006 totOktober 2011 as bestuurder vandie burgemeesterskantoor ge-werk.

“Dit was beslis die hoogtepuntvan my loopbaan. Die blootstel-ling was ongelooflik. Dit was ’nvoorreg om met hulle saam tewerk en by hulle te leer,” het sy ge-sê.

Sy het op 1 November die leiselsas bestuurder van Subraad 7 oor-geneem by Elmaleen du Plessis,wat vir meer as ’n jaar as bestuur-der waargeneem het nadat die vo-rige bestuurder, Dennis Smit, in

September verlede jaar ná 41 jaaruit die munisipale diens afgetreehet. Smit neem tans tydelik waaras bestuurder van die Draken-stein-munisipaliteit (Paarl- enWellington-omgewing).

Viljoen is een van slegs ses vrou-likebestuur-ders van die24 subradevan Kaap-stad en dieeerste vrou-likebestuur-der in Dur-banville.

“Ek is be-voorreg ompersoneelmet baie er-varing tekry wat vir’n jaar al-leen kon regkom. Dis baie gerus-stellend,” het sy gesê.

Sy wil graag ’n verskil maak indienslewering en wil goeie ver-houdings bou met al die onder-skeie lyndepartemente, gemeen-skapsorganisasies en raadslede.

Kliëntediens lê haar ook na aandie hart. “Dit gaan nie net oordienslewering nie, maar ook oor

hoe inwoners deur die Stad semense behandel word,” het sy ge-sê.

Nóg ’n uitdaging vir haar is dievestiging van vyf funksionelewykskomitees binne die subraad-gebied aan die begin van volgende

jaar.“Wyksko-

mitees gaan’n baie be-langrike rolspeel inopenbaredeelname,insette indie begro-ting en mo-niteringvan diensle-wering.

“Dis ui-ters belang-

rik dat hulle optimaal funksioneerom sodoende te verseker dat diebehoeftes van die subraad aandaggeniet,” sê sy. Behuising, dié in Fi-santekraal en Morningstar, is ookbelangrike kwessies waarmee telank gesloer word, meen sy.

Viljoen, wat in Maart volgendejaar 20 jaar ondervinding sal hê inplaaslike regering, het in 1992 as

komiteebeampte in dié nuwe posby die destydse Milnerton-munisi-paliteit begin. Dit het later dieBlaauwberg-munisipaliteit ge-word. Sy het gevorder tot hoof vankomiteedienste in 2000 en wasdaarna deel van die oorgangspantoe die Stad as die unistad bekend-gestaan het. Sedert 2002 het sy aldie administrasie van die subradebehartig. In Oktober 2005 is sy aan-gestel as bestuurder van komitee-dienste van die unistad vir wetge-wende komitees. Sy is in April2006 deur Zille self genader om diepos as bestuurder van die burge-meesterskantoor te vul.

Viljoen is in Bellville gebore enhet aan die Hoërskool President inGoodwood gematrikuleer. Sy heteers aan die Universiteit van Stel-lenbosch vir ’n jaar studeer enhaar BA-graad in Duits, Engels ensielkunde daarna aan die Univer-siteit van die Vrystaat voltooi.

Haar eerste betrekking was asassistent-personeelbeampte in De-sember 1983 by die Departementvan Onderwys en Opleiding.

Sy is vyf jaar later tot admini-stratiewe hoof van personeel be-vorder. Sy en haar man bly op Mal-mesbury.
