They renamed Briggs Stadium Tiger Stadium in 1961. Then in 2000 they moved again to

Comerica Stadium where they remain today. Before the American baseball league was

created there was a club. The club had four teams in it. Cleveland Indians, Chicago White

Sox, Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers were all in the club.

There was an original league before the american one. They first joined in 1894. An

exhibition is what they considered the first game. They first went head to head with the

athletics.

In 1900 the western league became the American League. Originally it was a minor league. It

became major in 1901.
