HAOST was founded in 1947
HAOST has an Executive Council of 9 members
Holds its Annual Meeting at mid-October
Counts 910 active members and 830 associate members, mainly residents, not all in good standing
Not all the orthopaedic surgeons and residents are obliged to be members of the Association

2 semesters either of Plastic,Thoracic,
Vascular or Neurosurgery
There are not exams to start the program.
There are not obligatory exams during the

In Greece the Educational and Training system,
as far as is concerned, the Post Graduated Medical
Training Program, is controlled by the Ministry of Health
Recently the Health Authorities started thinking
that the Residency Program has to be organized by
the National Scientific Societies
HAOST is a pioneer Society, as far as is concerned,
Continues Medical Education Orthopaedic Program
since 1984
There is a permanent Committee and now it serves as
an advisor to the Health Authorities
The last two years HAOST published
1. “Guidelines for the Prevention of Deep Venus Thrombosis in Orthopaedic Surgery” 2009 and
2. it is under press “Guidelines for the Use of Bone Grafts in Orthopaedic Surgery”
These two publications distributed to the
Greek Orthopaedic Community and Greek Physicians
