Mission Statement

The heart of Union Gospel Mission ministry is to glorify Jesus Christ through the evange-lization and regeneration of the urban poor, while worshipping with acts of mercy. To serve these ends, the Mission provides a Christ centered environment, clothing, food, shelter, spiritual training, and a recovery program.

52+ Years of History

In 1962, eight Christian businessmen were led by God to create a place where alcoholic men of the city could hear the Gospel and receive a second chance at life. Local churches banded together to create a Mission on Second Street in what is now “Old Sacramento”. A few years later, the Mission moved to our pre-sent location at 400 Bannon Street.

Present

365 days a year, the Mission remains a shining light providing more than 9,000 monthly meals, clothing, hygiene items, shelter, in-house rehabilitation program, and a life-changing gospel message to the homeless and poor of Sacramento.

None of the food, items, and services pro-vided by the Mission requires a payment of any kind.

Growing Need

The needs of the homeless and the poor continue to increase each year.

The Mission operates without tax or government support of any kind, funded entirely by generous donations of individu-als and organizations in the community. Your contributions make it possible for us to help people make meaningful life changes and become contributing mem-bers of society. Some of the items needed throughout the year, and listed

Chapel

An essential part of the Mission is preaching the Word of God. Every evening, twice on Sundays, we have a different volunteer church group con-duct a chapel service for our guests. Counsel and prayer is given with love and hope in Christ.

9,000 Meals/month Every night, twice on Sundays, our guests are served a hot, well-balanced and nutritious meal by volunteer church groups after Chapel Service.

Free Resources Showers, clean clothes, toiletries, and essential items, including mail service and haircuts, are given to homeless men on a daily basis. P l ease see ou r needs list online at ugmsac.com to donate.

Homeless Shelter

The Mission lodges 60+ homeless men nightly. We allow each man shelter for seven consecu-tive days and three days off to provide a chance for other unfortunate men.

Rehabilitation Program

Our 9-month in-house drug and alcohol re-habilitation program is free of charge and accommodates 24 men. Our staff teaches from the Bible in a structured curriculum. Our chaplains challenge the men, daily, to develop Christ-like behavior, with one-on-one counseling sessions. Many men’s lives are being transformed!

Eagle’s Nest Ranch

A 40-acre Ranch in Sacramento County owned by the Mission. Operated by a general manager overseeing the men in various stages of rehabili-tation. They raise livestock, poultry and garden. However, the seeds planted are not just agricul-tural; spiritual seeds and growth through Bible studies, counseling and mentoring in Christ.

Food Box Program

Twice weekly, we supply food boxes to families, and the elderly, who are struggling to make ends meet. For Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas we distribute a bountiful holiday meal. Please con-sider donating turkeys, hams and various items that are needed to fill these food boxes!

Women’s Clothing Closet

Homeless and poverty-stricken women are minis-tered to every Thursday with Bible Study, food and a variety of essential items such as clothing, purses, shoes, and toiletries to assist them with their daily needs, help them prepare for work; even clothing, formula, and diapers for their children.

Throughout the year, the Mission hosts special events and outreaches to give the homeless additional support, care, resources, and to see the love of Christ!

There are a variety of ways to volunteer. For a tour of the Mission and/or to receive our email Newsletter 6 times a year, please contact:

Outreaches

& Ways to

Volunteer

The Annex

A 3-bedroom home, owned by the Mission, is available for Rehabilitation Program Gradu-ates to stay temporarily as a “stepping stone” in getting firmly planted (finding a job, saving money) with the goal of eventually moving into their own place.

Romans 15:4 “For whatsoever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.”

Warming Center

During the cold winter months, the Mission is open all night for those who couldn’t get a bed. They are given a warm, safe environment, out of the streets, with hot drinks, pastries, and the love of Christ.

Next Step –

Pathway to a job

A vocational training and job placement pro-gram to help men find new beginnings, re-store dignity to broken lives, & provide hope.

Assistance with acquiring necessary educa-tion, professional skills training, career coaching, resume writing, interviewing, and mentoring. Men have received employment as we partner with local organizations and faith based job placement programs.

HARVEST

HOUSE

Is our new 9,600 sqft. building, down the street from us, where we will be expanding the Women’s Clothing Closet and Food Basket Program! We want to increase our services to the elderly, women and families that have to make a choice, today, between

buying their next meal or pay their bills. For
