Hello again,It seems a while since the last issue but I think that’s more to do with the fact we’ve had such a busy start to the year. It’s hard to believe we’ve said goodbye to the first quarter already.

On a positive note, we start Q2 in pretty good shape. The figures for the first quarter look strong against last year and the trends are very encouraging. The markets in both the UK & Ireland are performing well and the longer term outlook is good. That said, we are working to some challenging budgets so we can’t afford to become complacent and need to stay on top of our game.

This newsletter focuses on the recent Shining Star Awards, our first ever area-wide awards programme. As a people business, you - our team members are what matters most and you set us apart from our competitors in a highly competitive marketplace. You have the ability to create positive memories for our guests and to provide an emotional attachment that hopefully makes them want to return again and again. For these reasons, I feel strongly that we should take the time to recognise your efforts and say thank you for making the difference, and I hope the Shining Star Awards goes someway in doing this. Many congratulations again to all of our finalists and winners and lets use this year as the platform to make next year’s event even bigger and better!

In other news, we continue to invest in our hotels to create a portfolio that we can be genuinely proud of. Work is ongoing at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel & Conference Centre, London Heathrow and the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel, Jersey is now proudly sporting a stunning new Waterfront Bar & Restaurant.Wishing you all a pleasant and successful Spring!

Best regards

NEW LOOK RESTAURANT AND BAR AT THE RADISSON BLU WATERFRONT HOTEL, JERSEYThe Waterfront at the Radisson Blu Jersey is the Island’s newest destination Restaurant and Bar. Located on the Marina with some of the Island’s most stunning views, The Waterfront’s stylish new look and feel is the result of a recent transformation, costing close to £1 million. The new space is a cosy yet contemporary environment that works for different occasions. Whether it’s a lazy Sunday lunch in the Restaurant, a quick after work drink, business lunch in the bar, or an afternoon on the terrace sipping cocktails in the sun; The Waterfront should hit the spot. The modern yet classic decor is created with a neutral pallet and the occasional colour splash. The eclectic mix of materials and fabrics used are rich and warm, and subtle elements throughout hint at the hotel’s nautical setting. Natural daylight floods in through the floor to ceiling windows and at night, ambience is created through candle and mood lighting. Food lovers can enjoy a bold menu of signature dishes, complemented with fresh and quirky daily specials. The style of cooking reflects the Island’s French heritage and the ingredients are fresh, seasonal and wherever possible; locally produced.

The competition was tough with over 200 nominations received, and that’s after hotels had gone through their own shortlisting process! Overall, the standard and quality was incredibly high, there’s a wealth of talent in the business and we were spoilt for choice when it came

to the shortlists. Difficult decisions were necessary but after a little bit of blood, sweat and tears, we got it down to our 37 finalists.

As the evening arrived, guests were escorted into the Hollywood-themed room for a night of

celebration. In between a delicious showcase of food by chef’s from hotels across the Area, the awards were introduced, and the winners announced (turn over to find out more about our first ever Shining Star winners).

SHINING STAR AWARDSHollywood came to Manchester on Friday 21st March 2014 as the UK and Ireland’s first ever area-wide awards evening was held. Almost 200 people from the Area’s hotels were in attendance at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport to see who would be crowned as our first ever Shining Stars.

I’m incredibly proud to say, we have some of the best people in the business working for us, a real strength in depth of quality and talent. The first Shining Star Awards is a real milestone for me and it was an absolute honour to spend the evening with so many special, talented and dedicated individuals – our Shining Stars

I’m incredibly proud to say, we have some of the best people

Entertainment came in the form of the singing waiters and local band, The Revs, with winners and finalists dancing until the wee hours with their team members and colleagues. Rumour has it there were one or two sore heads the next day!

I know how hard everyone is working and how busy we all are, and it’s absolutely crucial to take a step back and acknowledge those doing exceptional things on a daily basis – and that’s our Shining Stars. The whole process has been a real eye-opener – we know we’ve got some super stars in the business but seeing it all evidenced in black and white takes it to another level

Top 5 performing hotels by funds raised:

“Quids for Kids” is one of the ways we can support this partnership. The scheme supports Carlson Rezidor’s worldwide commitment to children by adding an optional £1 charge to guests’ bills, which is then shared equally between Variety, the Children’s Charity, and Carlson Rezidor’s corporate charity, the World Childhood Foundation.

We launched Quids for Kids in mid-Feb-ruary 2013 and as of the end of February 2014, we have raised a total of £78,114.53! This is a really great effort but we have noticed the numbers in several hotels have dropped in recent months and we ask you all to pick up the good work and help us smash our target for 2014.We’d like to celebrate our hero hotels for the first year of Quids for Kids:

QUIDS FOR KIDSHITS £78,000In February 2013, Carlson Rezidor announced a partnership with Variety, the Children’s Charity in the UK. Through our 34 UK properties, we help raise funds to improve the lives of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children throughout the UK.

Well done to all involved, this is a fantastic achievement!

Page 13: UK & IRELAND UPDATE Q1 - 2014

UK & Ireland Update Q1 - 2014 11

In addition to Quids for Kids, our hotels are actively involved in a whole host of fundraising activities for Variety – with team members generously giving their time to support this wonderful cause. One of the signature support elements Variety work on providing is Sunshine coaches to schools and community groups to provide opportunities for the sick, disabled and disadvantaged children to get out and about. When we launched our partnership with Variety, we had one clear goal in mind – to buy our first Sunshine coach – and thanks to all of your hard work, dedication and fundraising efforts, we’ve done it!

The coach was presented to staff and pupils of the North Ridge High School in Manchester recently. North Ridge High School, a short drive away from the Radisson Blu Hotel, Manchester Airport, is a specialist school for children with severe disabilities and learning difficulties. They had first requested a coach three years ago and had been waiting so long, they were beginning to think they would never get one. After researching the incredible work that the school does and the progress that it has made, we couldn't think of a better school for our first Sunshine coach. We also felt synergies with their slogan of "do your best!" and our own "yes I can!"

The staff and pupils were understandably delighted with the donation and said there’s no questioning the value that the coach will add to the lives of the pupils at North Ridge High School. To find out more about the school, visit the website (http://nrhs.

mancd.com/). It’s a really special school that does incredible work for children with very severe special needs.

Thanks again for your help and support – we couldn’t have done it without you! We’d love to build on this momentum and make 2014 an even bigger year so please keep Variety in your mind and hearts and let’s work towards our next Sunshine coach!
