Tne work at this camp as well as most other uiIAP .zc:.^.pn includes tune

cutting fertilizing working in vegetable fields road rapair cutting tim

Treatment at this camp as well as the other UMA.Pcamps I van assignedto was always harsh The guards would insult us beat us with the rifle rnzttsand make us kneel for long hours in the hot sun. This type of treatment con

tinued until September 1966 when a remarkable change in the treatment occurredthe stern discipline continued but there were no more beatings -r iccu1ta andwe were treated more like human beings According to the SMJ Iernor:n el ac

signed to this camp the reason for the change was because of verld opinion_and the bad p biicity these camps have received Supposedly Castro himself

gave orders to stop the beatings

Security in this UMAP camp and the others in which I vas detained is

lax since camp offic.,als feel that if you escape you will soon be caughtThis particular camp had only a six foot (non barbed) wire fence surroundingit

G The camp had two Armor lieutenants six sergeants one political instructor assigned there were six military draftees who served as camp guards(A typical UMAP camp or company as it is known usually has this number ofImmanent pe'2sonnel assigned
