Reactions 1196 - 5 Apr 2008 Unauthorised ED drugs including Libidus not safe Health Canada has advised consumers not to use Libidus or any unauthorised products promoted for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) as they may pose serious health risks due to undeclared prescription ingredients. The agency says that Libidus was found to contain undeclared prescription drug sildenafil, the use of which can pose serious health risks in patients with pre- existing medical conditions like those at risk of strokes, those with heart problems, or those taking heart medications. Patients with pre-existing heart disease who receive sildenafil can develop cardiovascular disorders like heart attack, sudden cardiac death, low BP, stroke, abnormal heart beat and chest pain. Also, sildenafil use can cause seizures, vision loss, dizziness, sudden decrease or loss of hearing, headache, prolonged erection, flushing, indigestion, abdominal pain and nasal congestion. Concomitant use of sildenafil and organic nitrates like nitroglycerin [glyceryl trinitrate] can lead to life-threatening hypotension. Health Canada has advised consumers not to use Libidus or any other unauthorised products for ED treatment. Consumers are advised to return Libidus to the place of purchase and to seek medical care if they have concerns about their health. Health Canada.
