Examine Containers (inside and outside) Use adequate artificial or daylight for conducting examinations All repacking should be done in the presence of the SCBCA/ CBCA Look for soil, feces, snails, insects and plant and animal items All soil must be removed - Zero tolerance - Soil can harbor:

animal and plant diseases (bacteria, viruses, fungi) insect and snail life stages nematodes noxious weed seeds.

Examinations

• Look for prohibited packing material and items made with (hay, straw, grass, cotton waste, forest litter, burlap sacks, rice straw).

• U.S. bound pallets, crates, blocking, bracing – Must be treated and stamped, no bark.

• Frass around wood packing material may be a sign of other wood boring pests

No Soil – zero tolerance No vegetation (seeds, leaves, twigs, etc) No insects or snails No fecal material Inspect inside and outside vehicle including:

Undercarriage Trunk Floor Engine (grills, etc) Wheels and wheel wells

(minimum 90 psi pressure sprayer for vehicle cleaning)

No co-mingling with non cleared cargo Stored off floor (2 inches) No birds in warehouses Snail barriers where required (salt or copper)

Vehicles – Hardstand or 6 inch deep gravel No soil, vegetation or snails in storage area POV’s in enclosed area (fenced area or warehouse), and separated from

unclean POV’s Snail barriers where required (salt or copper) 6 ft or more distance from vegetation around storage area, not under trees

Containers for shipping cargo and vehicles –Must be cleaned and inspected for contaminants
