Language Points

In all of these conversations one person asks another for “honest” opinion about an article of clothing. Rather than saying directly they don’t like it, they suggest an alternative. The suggestions are a way of nicely saying “I don’t like it.” For example, “Well, I’d prefer yellow to black.” “Hmm. It’s not my favorite color.” Or “I’d rather you take the green one, ‘cause it looks good on you.”
